Embedded Flash

Are other vodafone users able to play flash files at this site?

http://www.mybirth.tv/a-z.cfm

The flash files don't seem to get past the 'loading' stage when accessing them via my vodafone 3g connection. If I connect my laptop to my inlaws BT connection, these flash files play without issue.

I have followed vodafones advice and:

  • reinstalled the mobile connect software
  • inserted by sim card into another vodafone handset to receive network updates
Neither of these seem to have done the trick.

I am able to play flash files on other websites, so think that this could be a content filtering issue.

Can anyone help?

Hi Frankie-Capri,

I don't have a netbook to test this with right at the moment, but if any other customers could test this for us and confirm if it's an issue, we'll be able to start looking into it for you :)

The link below is to one of the flash files, which don't work. Any comments on whether this does or doesn't work would be useful!!

Hi Frankie-Capri,

I've taken a look this morning via Mobile Broadband, as well as via my PC here which is on a fixed line connection, and the videos won't play on either.

Due to security, the browser we use in the office is a little old, so I'm thinking that might be the reason it won't play on my office PC, but the laptop I used was running Firefox 3 which should work fine. This is a little beyond my depth, so I'm passing back to Jon who is our resident Mobile Broadband expert. He's not in now until Monday morning, but is the best man for the job :)

Hi Frankie-Capri,

This is proving to be a bit of a difficult problem to track down, especially as we can't get the site working on our own PC's (which don't use Mobile Broadband). I know when we raise this, the first thing our Fault Managers will try to do is ensure the website itself is working fine, but since it's clearly giving us issues too, we can't say that for sure.

The browser we're using should not matter, as the only real requirement here is that the Flash plug-in is installed and working - which it is - but for whatever reason the videos are not rendering or streaming at all. Since we can see more than one system affected (our Mobile Broadband service, as well as our company internet service) this is not a content filtering issue or anything unique to our network - and is much more likely to be something unique to that website or the streaming service they're using.

In this situation I would have to recommend that you contact the webmaster of that website directly to report the issue. Chances are they're already aware of this or similar issues, and may be able to offer an explanation of why it's not working for you.
