Faulty Iphone 7 Plus charging port

So I have an iphone 7 plus with vodafone and suddenly its decided to stop charging.  I have purchased 4 new chargers which work for a day or so and then stop.  I took my handset into the shop today and was told that because there is a crack on the screen, the warrenty is no longer valid and I will have to pay £365 for them to deal with it.  Now my arguement is that I am more than happy to pay for the screen to be fixed but only once the charge port has been fixed. The charging not working is nothing to do with what I have done and surely this means the item is faulty? Im now going to look into my legal rights regarding this.  Has anyone else experienced this before?

Hi @Keighley1985

If you have damaged the phone by dropping or by other means, you will have voided the 24 month warranty offered by Vodafone. When you dropped the phone or whatever you did to cause the screen to crack, may well have caused internal faults resulting in the charging issue you are experiencing.

You best bet here is to take the phone into an Apple store for them to do a diagnostic report for you to take back to the store but as with all third party repairers, they are not permitted to undertake a warranty repair when there are signs of other damage.

Both Apple and the Networks would tie the damage into the possible drop that caused the screen crack.

To effect a repair they could possibly need to remove the screen to deal with replacing or repairing the port.

Manufacturing Warranty does not cover accidental damage.

Home Contents Insurance or a Bank Account that gives Mobile phone cover as a perk of the account could be used. T&C and excess fees would need to be checked.

I appreciate what your saying @Keighley1985 but this has always been the case in similar circumstances.

Apple could possibly offer an out of warranty replacement at a cost which are normally mint refurbished iPhones or offer the repair at a cost.

@Keighley1985 Just to add to these replies, I did have this issue myself with an iPhone 6.

I took it to an Apple store and one of their Genius Bar staff used the little SIM card removal tool to scoop out and clean the charge port. They said often charge issues can be caused by a build up of material which comes from the phone being in your pocket.

It might be a long shot and could well be an actual issue with your device, however if you've got this tool handy it's worth a try 🙂
