Fix Nokia E71 internet connection

Hi MattyD

I have a Nokia E71 and did not have access to internet. Recently I made a factory reset and now from the shortcut to Facebook I was able to enter my facebook account but not always. Still I could not enter yahoo, hotmail accounts or websites. I get the message Web No gateway reply.

Do you have some instruction that can make my E71 able to use the internet?

@JM2 Please follow the steps listed in our Device Guides here, for how to set your phone up for internet. 

If you're still experiencing these issues after you've tried the steps, please let us know.

Thank you for reply to my query sent over a month ago!

I have not yet tried the settings you recommended because I opened your reply today 28th December as I was expecting the reply in my yahoo mail. Somehow today I was able to enter the forum and found your reply.

If not tonight, tomorrow I shall try the settings you recommended and I will let you know if the problem is fixed. At the moment I can enter Facebook but some links in it don’t open, and no emails etc.

I hope I will not find problem entering the forum.

Are you sure the settings you sent are for the Nokia E71 because I don’t have “Destinations” in my internet settings and the Connectivity I have comes under Menu not from Setting.

Please do you know much on E71 because it appears clear that the settings are causing my internet problems? The unit is capable for internet connection because I can use Facebook (only no emails or other sites).

I'm sorry to see these steps haven't helped - we'd like to get you set up so you can use the internet on your phone. Could you try the below steps for us and let us know how you get on?

1. From idle screen, press the menu key
2. Scroll to and select 'Tools'
3. Scroll down and select 'Settings'
4. Select 'Connection'
5. Choose 'Access points'
6. Press options and scroll to 'New access point'
7. After selecting, highlight and select 'Connection name', enter "Vodafone WAP" and press ok
8. Select 'Data bearer', highlight and select 'Packet data'
9. When selecting 'Access point name', enter:
For Pay monthly customers: wap.vodafone.co.uk and press ok
For Pay as you talk: pp.vodafone.co.uk and press ok
10. Scroll to and select 'User name', enter wap and press ok
11. Highlight 'prompt password' and press centre key until it shows no
12. Scroll to and select 'Password', enter wap and press ok
13. Highlight 'Authentication' and press centre key until shows normal
14. Scroll to and select homepage enter e.g. www.vodafone.co.uk and press ok
15. Press options, scroll to and select 'Advanced settings'
16. Select proxy server address, enter 212.183.137.012 and press ok
17. Scroll to and select proxy port number, enter 8799 and press ok
18. Press back 6 times, scroll to and select 'Web'
19. Press options, scroll to and select 'Settings'
20. Highlight and select 'General'
21. Highlight and select 'Access point', scroll to and select 'User defined'
22. Select newly defined Vodafone WAP profile
23. Select homepage, highlight and select 'Default' and press ok
24. Press back 4 times

25. Restart your phone

Thank you for your reply with the settings. These settings are the same which was sent by MattyD in the Forum. I tried these but I was not able to use the internet and even the Facebook I was not able to use. It kept showing Packet Data Packet Data. I had to delete the new Access Point and then I was able to enter Facebook, but no email accounts.

My E71 is capable of using Internet because Facebook comes through the internet.

I think it is a matter of finding the right settings. I am willing to try anything because I got used to this phone and I am not familiar with touch screen devices.

@JM2 I'm sorry to see that you're still having difficulty connecting to the internet 

Please could send us some screen shots of your phone's display and the error messages you're getting when trying to connect. 

Are you still able to connect to Wi-Fi or is this also not working?

The most message that I receive when I try to enter internet is “WEB No gateway reply” or “Web Unable to perform operation” and others that does not come often.

These messages only stays 2 to 3 seconds and won’t give me chance to get the camera and take shots of them,

In Access point WEB it is able to enter Facebook but does not open all links, and no emails and other sites.

With WiFi it says also “Web Unable to perform operation”

Thanks for getting back to us with those details @JM2.

Are there any recently downloaded apps you have that may be affecting your internet access? We'd advise to remove any that may be interfering with your phone.

If you have a memory card inserted in your phone, when removing this do you still see the same error messages? If so, there may be some saved content or apps saved on the card that could be causing this issue.
