We have a client who has been struggling to make use of a white dongle (sorry, we support them remotely so don't have model details, yet). The system attempts to install the VMC Lite software on insertion of the dongle but doesn't complete.
Consequently, we downloaded the most recent version of the full Vodafone Mobile Broadband software from http://www.business.vodafone.com/site/bus/public/enuk/support/10_productsupport/laptop_connectivity/... [OT]I have to say, the Vodafone site wasn't exactly easy to navigate but the recently revamped site is positively IMPENETRABLE. I had to use Google to locate this download :-(. [/OT]
This installed successfully and the system rebooted. Sadly, a debug trace of an exception is displayed as the software starts, whether by double-clicking the desktop icon, or inserting the dongle. The attached image shows the window that contains the full trace, however, the salient line is: System.TypeInitializatinException: The type initializer for 'Vodafone.Data.Opcos' threw an exception. ---> System.Management.ManagementException: Not Found
The software has been removed and reinstalled with the same results.
The system is a Lenovo ThinkPad T60 with Windows XP Pro SP3.
Any pointers?

Hi karedla,
Thanks for your post and welcome rot the Vodafone eForum from all of the team.
So that we can look at this for you please can you let me know what modem you are currently using and also what is the exact error message that you get?
Also does this happen when connected to as different machine?
Also if you would like to try version 9.4.3 then it can be downloaded from here.
Give this a go and let me know how you get on.

Thanks James for responding on my query/request.
1. I'm using USB dongle ZTE K3770-z
2. I'm getting the same exact error that was attached as part of this first post. I'm attaching mine again for review.
Here is what I did:
- I've installed the VMC using the ZTE dongle that I purchased.
- Once the software got installed, it asked for reboot.
- I've rebooted and as part of reboot, VMC stared automatically and the attached error was thrown.
- I tried again to trigger the VMC and got the same error.
Then my hunt to fix this error started and tried various suggestions with no luck! I came through this post and wanted to see if it can take it to next level! of course with your help!!!
I didn't got another machine to test on! Will try.... Also try the 9.x verion and share the results.
IMO, this issue could be with the function call that is been called as part of VMC software trigger!
- Is there a JAVA version compatibility ?
- Any XML read issue?
- I did see some MS KB attached to package! Not sure if it is causing any thing here?
- Also, is VMC try to control all Network Adoptors on the system? If so, I've my company VPN / Juniper Odyssey dot1x adaptors which does not allow any software to control them.
Hope this provides the picture to crack this issue!

Thanks Simon,
Further to my previous post, I've installed the 9.x version of VMB on my laptop and didn't see any issues in starting the application. How ever, this software didn't detect my modem! I tried to manually add the modem but it is not detecting. This may be due to the fact that, the drivers for K3770-z were not installed in my system. I've this verified under the hardware --> modems list! I tried to install the modem drivers browsing the 3G dongle and it didn't help!
Hope backend experts would be able to crack this down!
Cheers
Bhaskar

Hi karedla,
Unfortunately we have not had a response as of yet however I have chased this up for you today.
In the meantime to allow you to use the dongle you can try to create a manual dial up command which bypasses the use of the software.
Go to Start, Settings/Control Panel then click on Network Connections and create a new connection from the top of the menu by clicking on File then New connection.
Click Next
Select 'Connect to the Internet' > click Next
'Set up my connection manually' > click Next
'Connect using a dial up modem' > click Next
Place a tick in 'Modem – Huawei/Option > click Next
ISP name can be anything > click Next
Phone number must be *99# > click Next
Create this connection for: ‘user preference’ > click Next
Username: web / Password: web > click Next
Place a tick in ‘Add a shortcut to your desktop for this connection’
Click Finish
Click Dial
For Windows 7, try:
1) In order to create a manual dial up, Click the Windows Start Button and select the Control Panel
2) Select Network and Sharing Centre
3) Select Set up a new connection or network
4) Make sure Connect to the internet is highlighted, then press next.
5) Double click on Dial-up
6) Double click on the Vodafone modem listed.
7) Fill out the fields as below and press Connect.
😎 You will see the following message.
9) You should then see this message. Click on Browse the internet now.
10) To connect the modem in the future, wait until Windows has finished booting up. Plug in the modem and when you see the gold star in your task bar, click it to bring up a menu of available connections. Select the one called Vodafone Hire and then click the Connect button that will appear.

is Hello.
Right, this is a response to the original post (Full VMB software throws exception on startup with the error "System.TypeInitializatinException: The type initializer for 'Vodafone.Data.Opcos' threw an exception. ---> System.Management.ManagementException: Not Found") and it is a bit of a shot int he dark, but it may be worth trying.
Bhaskara, is this something you've already tried?
It may be worth checking that the WMI service is listed as "started" in services.
If it's not started, start the service.
If it is started it may be corrupt. This tool can be used to validate the WMI service and check if it's corrupted:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc180684.aspx
If the WMI service is corrupted then it's possibel this will repair:
Click Start, Run and type the following command:
rundll32 wbemupgd, UpgradeRepository
This command is used to detect and repair a corrupted WMI Repository
Good luck!

Thanks for your post.
We only provide the latest version of this software. The only way to revert back to the previous one is if you have a copy saved.
If you don't, and are still having issues, please reply back to let us know what they are.
Thanks,
Amanda

The error is driver related I think. To fix the issue go into device manager and uninstall any "huaweu" or "VMB" related devices. These can be found under USB devices and sometimes there is one under "Modems". Then reinstall the drivers, I think these comes with VMB, or just plug in the USB stick and maybe the auto-installer will put them back in for you.
let me know if this fixes your issue 😉
