I usually charge my phone overnight and don't really seem to have any issues usually, however this monring when I took it off charge, within 45 minutes I was down to 79% without using it at all. After two hours I was down to 37% so I charged it again back up to 100%. I took it off charge at 4.30pm and by 7pm I was down to 42% and I hadn't even so much as picked it up within that time then from 7pm to 8.10pm it went down to completely flat - again the only time I'd picked it up to do anything with it was to put the background light on to check the time. When it got to 10% I watched it go down by 1% every minute or so. The battery is also really hot during this time. I looked at another post saying to check the battery on a flat surface to see if it rocks - I've done this and the battery is completely flat to the surface. I've also done a factory reset on it so there are no unecessary apps on the phone taking up space and over-occupying the battery trying to run it. This is the first time this has happened after having the phone for 21 months. Surely the shelf life of the battery should last longer than two years, no? I do have a micro SD card in the phone, could this be the problem, although I have had it for almost a year so I dont see why it would just be causing the phone to die almost instantly after this length of time.

Hi there
From what you describe, it does sound like you may have a faulty battery. There was a dodgy batch of batteries that were sent out. I'd suggest contacting your nearest Samsung Repair Centre and popping in to see them. I suspect that they will want to check the device over but more than likely will just replace the battery.
As batteries are a consumable item, depending on how you use them they could last only a few months to well over 2 years, although 18 - 24 months is about right for a battery.

Thanks for your advice, however my nearest Samsung repair centre is 60 miles away so going into see them isn't an option for me. Surely the battery counts as harware and is covered by the Vodafone 24 month warranty?

If you look at the Samsung website, the battery isn't hardware , it is a consumable item and has a different warranty.
It may be still worth contacting Samsung as they can arrange for a postal repair for you. They may also be able to send out a replacement battery.

Thanks and all but I'm not willing to send my phone away for them to come back and tell me I have to pay for something that shouldn't be happening at all because with my experience with Samsung and this god awful phone this is what is going to happen.
The way I see it is that with a pay monthly contract technically Vodafone own the phone until I've finished paying for it at the end of the 24 months so they should be the ones paying for the repair. Samsung didn't supply me with a faulty phone - Vodafone did.

Erm - if you take a look I suggested you contact Samsung and see if they will be prepared to send you a replacement battery.
I'm afraid you're mistaken, your contract with Vodafone is for airtime only and excludes your handset.
The battery warranty is only 6 months according to the Samsung website as it is a consumable (wear and tear item) - this warranty is seperate from the handset warranty Samsung offer. You can always send the device off to Vodafone for repair. It sounds like the battery but it is worth having it checked over in case it is something else and there is no guarantee that Vodafone won't charge you for a replacement battery.

Plenty of people have reported Samsung sending out replacement batteries without question. Although the main spate of this was a while ago, it's a known issue and they apppear to have a procedure in place. I'd talk to them and see what they say. They're a better option than Vodafone because they're more likely to have stock immediately available, too.

Hi,
I have exactly the same issue. The handset is 19 months old and started doing this a few months ago. At the sametime I had a connectivity issue and ended up doing a full factory reset which seemed to fix the problem but only for a few weeks. I can't hand on heart say it fixed the problem but it did seem better for a while. However it is definitely back to draining from 100% to 55% in 1 hour off charge. My battery isn't swollen or defective in appearance in anyway. The handset does routinely get very hot for no appearent reason. I do have most "options" enabled which could mean an app is running out of control but I have always had everything turned on so I do think it's the battery is just approaching end of life. My only issue is I aim to upgrade in 6 months time so could do without buying a new battery for a soon to be replaced handset. Might try a cheap battery off amazon, I did try an Anker battery but this did swell up after 6 months so stopped using it, maybe that's worth another go for 6 months
