How to stop S5 converting long sms to mms

I have recently upgraded from the Samsung Galaxy S3 to the S5 but have noticed that when sending a sms longer than 480 character (or 3 sms) it automatically converts to mms. I have been through all the settings and have checked online but cannot find a resolve to it. I never had this problem with the S3 so am finding it really annoying. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

When I first had my S2 (on Gingerbread), there was an option in the menu for the Messaging app to turn this off and split long SMS into multiple ones.   I haven't seen it on later (non-Samsung) devices, so I'm not sure whether it was just a Samsung option or something in Android that's been removed.  You may simply have to check the character count in your messages (I think there's still a counter).
