Huawei Ascend P1 ringtone rising volume

Hi. I have recently received a Huawei P1 on a new 2 year contract and have set it up. I have noted that the ringtone starts off really quiet and then gradually increases in volume. This is a really annoying feature but I can't see how to get the volume to come on at max without the ramp. There's no setting I can see and I tried to upgrade the phone software but it tells me that its already at the most up to date status. Is this normal on the P1 and is there anyway I set it so it just rings normally. Its really starting to get to me and the thought of another 2years with the phone operating this way is pretty daunting.

Thanks for the information. I’ve checked for you and you’re on the latest available version of firmware for the phone. I can also see you’ve asked this question on Huawei’s Facebook page but have yet to receive a reply. I’ve checked through the user manual and can’t see anything mentioning about changing the style of ringtone.

 

Have you considered extending how long the phone rings before it goes to Voicemail?

 

The time can be altered in 5 second steps and be set between 5 and 30 seconds long - so you can use 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 or 30 seconds.

* Enter * * 61 * 121 *10*
* then enter time between 5 -> 30
* then # send.

For example **61*121*10*25# SEND would set it at 25 seconds.

I tried that **61*121*30#SEND fix but it just confirmed I d registered for call forwarding(?!) and made no difference to the amount of time the phone rings before going to voicemail (15 secs).

Any other ideas? This problem with the phone is a huge pain and makes me wish I d kept my old Nokia brick.

It looks as though Andrew left out part of the code. To set delay to 30 sec, you need **61*121*11*30#SEND Hope that works!

That's cracked it thanks Annie! I now have 30 seconds of Highway To Hell in which to hear the phone, rather than 15, of which the first 12 were barely audible. Still a shockingly poor oversight by the manufacturer though, and not related to the phone s overall max volume capability, which is much louder, eg when playing music files out loud.

This issue really spoils the use of this phone. I've missed lots of calls since having the phone, and since I'm still along way from the end of my contract I am stuck with it. Seriously thinking that Vodafone are not bothered so may well swap providers next time. Shame because a simple software upgrade would surely sort this out

I've found that to hear the phone properly, you have to reset the volume after every incoming call. Looking around at other sites, this is a well known software fault that was identified in early 2013. It can be rectified with a firmware update. However unless you use a genuine Vodafone update (which doesn't exist) the warranty on the handset is void,

Vodafone tech team constantly use vague and none commitment fob off excuses that they cant release any details of planned firmware updates because this is dealt with by another department (pass the book). You are therefore expected to be stupid enough to believe that over 12 months after the fault was identified and rectified by others, Vodafone may or nay not be working on a solution.

In essence they are not interested, they have you signed up for a 2 year contract. The only interest they will show will be when they want you to renew your contract at which point they will be full of apologies and expect you to believe that this is not their usual level of customer service and assure that it wont happen again.

If you look at the difference in the monthly cost you are paying for your contract with handset compared with what you would have paid on a Sim only contract, over 24 months you will have paid Vodafone a substantial amount of money for none existent after sales support.

I have been with Vodafone for over 10 years, sadly at the end of this contract I will have paid a considerable amount of money for the privilege of of owning a handset not fit for purpose and a service level of the sort you would expect from a fly by night market trader. Needless to say I will not be renewing my contract.

It seems to be a "blindspot" with Huawei, as I have a Huawei Ascend G300 with what sounds like an identical problem (or it might sound like it if ....).  Perhaps all their design engineers have over-sensitive hearing?  I'm assured that the firmware upgrade for the G300 reduces the problem, but it caused me such hideous problems in other respects that in the end I decided to do without.

 

I had set my ring period to the max 30 seconds before it switched to voicemail, and had just become resigned to still missing the occasional call.  However, I've recently acquired a Galaxy S3 Mini as my main phone, and now rarely miss calls; it also has a quiet initial ring, but ramps up very quickly.  I've put my second-string SIM into my G300, but had forgotten all about extending the ring period for that account - until I realised that I was hearing calls just as they cut to voicemail!

 

After a bit of casting about, I found the **61*121*11*30#SEND instruction, and I (and those who borrow my second phone) are back in business, just about.  To be fair to Huawei, the G300 does seem to be very well thought out in many respects, even if somewhat underpowered by 2014 standards, and it has some extremely useful features which I miss on the S3 Mini.
