Huawei K3675 Adapator - Xp Conflict

browna01
Not applicable
Apologies if this appears elsewhere. For 2 weeks my K3675 adaptor has been working great - so we know it works. Then my beloved IT department upgraded my laptop a day ago and it will not longer make the connection to any network. USB is working. I've had the SIM checked. Software itself all works. I have removed the software and re-installed twice and same error.

It's literally as it's making the connection (USB light is on full showing a connection) that it bombs out with the usual "Mobileconnect.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close" and then debugs the error as follows :-

Event Type BEX
P1 mobileconnect.exe
P2 9.4.4.17702
P3 4ab3b9e1
P4 WwanCoreSdk.dll
P5 3.701.3.0
P6 4a8da895
P7 000f8868
P8 c0000409
P9 00000000

and gives the same debug every time.

I clearly understand how difficult it is to help remotely and I do not have sysadm on my laptop - it's all locked down (but was able to download the original software). Clearly also my IT dept have done "something" but you gurus out there may know where the conflict lies so I can go back to them and get a restore of previous settings. I'm running XP Pro SP2

Thanks for any help

Andy

Hi Andy_Redditch and welcome to the eForum

I'm sorry to hear that you are having problems with this. I'll be honest and say that I'm not entirely sure whats going on here.

First things first though, lets get the latest version of the Vodafone Mobile Connect software onto your computer. To download the latest version of software headover to Vodafone Mobile Connect

Please install this then let us know how you get on. If you have any more questions just give us a shout and we'll be happy to help you further

Thanks

Wayne

Hi Andy

i Have had the exact same problem for the last two days and i have deleted all my modems reinstalled the new one, but still doing the exact thing. Connecting for 5 seconds and then dropping connection. Have you had any luck yet? because i am struggling to find any solution. I tried installing my previous Hauwei modem that was working fine before but now even that one isnt working.

Hi waynemp,

Firstly, a very warm welcome to the eForum Family, it's always great to see new faces on here :).

Can you confirm that you're experiencing exactly the same error as Andy? If this is the case then it's definitely caused by a software conflict somewhere. If you haven't done so already then I'd recommend uninstalling your current version of VMC and then downloading the latest version from here: VMC 9.4.4.

If this doesn't resolve the issue then try connecting directly with the dial up connection as follows:

-Go to Start
-Press Connect To
-Press VMC
-Press Connect/Dial

Basically, this will bypass the VMC software so may allow you to connect. If this doesn't resolve it either then we find out where the conflict lies. The best way to do this is to perform a process called a "clean boot" as follows:

To Apply “Clean Boot” on Windows XP:
1. Click Start > Run.
2. In the Run window, type following text:
msconfig
3. Click OK.
The System Configuration Utility appears.
4. Click the General tab.
Click on Selective Startup and make sure that "Load System Services" is the only item checked.
(You will be unable to unselect "Use Original BOOT.INI." This is OK).
5. Click the Services tab.
6. Select Hide all Microsoft Services.
Warning Do not skip this step. You must hide the Microsoft Services before you go on to step 7.
7. Clear all the services that are still displayed on the Services tab.
8. Click Apply > OK.
9. Click Restart.

To Apply "Clean Boot" on Windows Vista:
1. Click Start Menu, and type msconfig in the search bar.
2. Hit return (or double left click) on returned Msconfig file to launch System Configuration utility.
The System Configuration Utility appears.
3. Ensure the General tab is selected.
7. Clear all the services that are still displayed on the Services tab by selecting “Disable All”.
8. Click Apply > OK.
9. Click Restart.

If error is cleared then indicates a conflict with another service or application running on the machine. This will require enabling each service/application one by one and retesting to find the service/application at fault.
Note: When you have completed your troubleshooting, follow the steps in the next section to configure Windows to perform a Normal startup.

To Reverse Clean Boot:
Restore your computer to its original settings
1. Rerun MSConfig utility as detailed above
2. On the general tab click Normal Startup.
3. Click OK.
4. Click Restart.

Let me know how you get on with that :).

I too am having this issue, been working fine for about9 months, now suddenly we are getting a few machines back with this issue

Mobileconnect.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close" and then debugs the error as follows :-

P7 000f8868
P8 c0000409
P9 00000000

additional info.

1.) when you get the error, you get asked for the usual microsoft send error report, if you say YES and send the report, you do get on the internet!!! if you say no then you get booted out of the mobileconnect.

2.) another thing, we use restricted user profiles, the mobileconnect works fine as an admin but not as a user, bear in mind that this has been our way for years, and the mobileconnect has been working great for a year.

it would be nice to get a reply from vodafone about this, as when i phoned them i got the usual, well it works under admin so it must be the computer.

this answer i cannot accept, as i am seeing many more similar posts appearing with the same issue. however still no answer to be had.

anyway, there must be a fix.

Best Regards

James

wonder if anyone else is getting this also.

Hi wallsy

I've flagged this to our device specialist as I have never seen anything quite like this.

To help further, could you post your msinfo32 logs.

To create log:
  • Go to Start Menu.
  • Type msinfo32 in the search bar and hit return to open the System Configuration Utility.
  • Select File and Export.
  • Enter a file name and save the file.

Thanks
