Solution

IPAD AIR Losing Power

Stanthedog

Hi

I have an ipad air (model MH2M2B/A) which I have had for approximately 9 months, purchased from new. I run IOS 9.3.1 Recently I have noticed a problem. The battery shows that it is charging when it is plugged in yet it continues to lose power. It also loses power quite rapidly. This also happens when it is switched off and left on charge. Sometimes it charges ok but this seems to happen intermittently. Has anyone else had this issue, is it a known problem and is there a solution?

Thanks you in advance for your help.

Hi,

Check the Battery in settings , to see if something is using it heavily.

On the iPad  hold down the Sleep/Wake Button and Home button together until the Apple Logo shows. Then On seeing this Apple Logo release both buttons ,and the iPad will reset , which has been known to clear most glitches.

An apple store Genius Bar could run a diagnostic if you have on local.

Try calibrating the battery by letting it go to between 20% and 10% and recharge.

Try a restore via iTunes after backing up.

Try an alternative charger.

Ensure no no lint is in the charging port or in the charger lightening part.

What I have noticed is this behaviour only happens after using any sort of streaming app, such as TV catchup or some of the radio apps that I have installed. I'm wondering if this is an IOS bug?

Hi,

Typically streaming apps will use battery power much faster.

This isn't an iOS bug IMO and is the same on my iPad Air and iPhone 6 Plus.

Pretty much the the same on Samsung (android OS) and Windows phones I've used too.

Hi

Thanks for the reply, the problem is that once I've completed streaming whatever I need to stream, my IPad still won't charge. It looks like it is charging, but it just slowly loses power

@Stanthedog I have not has any problem with streaming since updating to the latest ios so your best bet if convenient is to visit an Apple store and let them run a test on the battery.

If it is shown as failing they will replace it under the 12 month warranty,

You're welcome.

In one of my earlier replies I mentioned visiting a Genius Bar.

They'll be able to help.

If you haven't got an Apple Store local then use Apples Online Chat to see if they can assist via you sending it to them.
