Solution

Issue / Bug with Vodafone Smart Ultra 6

Thought this may have just been an error on my handset, but now a fellow family member has the same issue with their Vodafone Smart Ultra 6 as well. We're both on Vodafone Sim Only contracts.

If you both encrypt your device and lock your sim with a pin, when you attempt to power up your device you're presented with a screen asking to enter your SIM pin. If you enter your correct sim pin your phone becomes paralysed and you have to do a hard reset (by pressing and holding side buttons for ages) to turn it off.

There is a workaround - instead of entering your SIM pin, you can press emergency call, then press the back key on the emergency dialler, which then allows you to enter your Android password (instead of SIM pin) and the phone boots up, after which you then have to enter your SIM pin and then your Android password AGAIN.

It makes you think you're dealing with an amateur phone/company and could do with being fixed.

All the best,

Dr. Harry Whitehead

P.s. Is this the correct place to report this??

Hi

That would certainly irk me if I had to do that every time.

If this was my phone I'd first ensure my firmware was up to date and then back up and perform a factory reset.

If that didn't help them I'd visit a Vodafone store and show them.the issue and ask if they can help at their end or send it off to be looked at. If under the 24 month warranty.

They may say it's something to do with the current firmware and send off a bug report to the relevant department or indeed ask customer service on the phone or via live chat to do this.

Many thanks for your reply, Lee.
There's too much on my phone (over 100 Gb) to justify a factory reset at this stage, as I'd probably be spending many hours getting it back to how it is. However, I will definitely take your advice on attending a Vodafone shop to demonstrate the big to them.
Cheers,
Harry
