K3520 Modem will not install

Trying to install a K3520 usb on my E-System EI 3103 laptop running Vista

When I plug the modem in I get the message 'Windows needs to install driver software' and gives three options, one being 'Locate and install driver (recommended)

Upon choosing this option it requests that I insert the disc that came with the device, and when I do this it says unable to install device

I called Tech Support who advised me to uninstall and reboot, however I tried to explain that the thing WON'T install

He then advised to try a different port or different modem which I duly did but with the same issue

I also tried to install everything from the disc manually but when it completes it cannot find device

Any ideas would be off great help

Hi Iain Percival.

That’s frustrating!

The first thing I would suggest to do would be:

  • Unplug the USB Modem.
  • Open Control panel and make sure its set to classic mode.
  • Select Phone and modem options.
  • Select the Modems tab.
  • Remove any Modems relating to the k3520.
  • Close all windows down so you're back at the desktop.
  • Open VMC without a modem attached.
  • Select Manage devices.
  • Remove as many devices as you can.
  • Right mouse click on the task bar icon for VMC and select "Exit Vodafone mobile connect".
  • Insert the USB Modem.
  • Check Phone and Modem options in control panel to see if a new modem has been installed.
  • Re open VMC and try to connect now.

As you have tried 2 USB Modems on the PC and they have both done the same thing, I would suspect that it maybe something to do with the PC itself. When did you last set a system restore point?

You may have to restore your PC to before this problem started if it is a windows issue.

If you can follow these steps and post back to let me know your progress :)

All the best

Thanks for this but this modem has never been installed so therefore a syatem restore may not apply

Plus I am unable to open VMC as the issue I have is that it does not install !! hence why I gave up calling tech support as I did explain this too them also

The laptop will recognise that the device is plugged in but just will not install

Hi Iain Percival.

If windows recognizes the modem then you should have an entry in phone and modem options, can you confirm this?

Have you tried downloading the latest version of the software from our Business site.

VMC 9.4.6 will install the drivers onto your pc so this shouldn't be a problem, It may well be worth also doing your windows. updates.

Thanks
