K3520 Reload Firmware

Hi,

We use K3520 USB modems and we have one device where the installation software on it has become corrupt and will therefore not load when plugged into a new laptop.

I can download the latest version of VMC, store it on the network and install it onto the relevant laptop but I do not wish to do that everytime I connect the device to another laptop.

What I would like to do is reinstall the firmware on the K3520 device which should overwrite the corrupt installation files. I had a similar issue on a K3760 device and a firmware update resolved the issue. Question is, where can I locate firmware 11.314.12.02.00 for VMC version 9.3.0.9237 from?

Regards,
Amo Sohi

Hi Amo Sohi,

Firstly, a very warm welcome to the eForum Family, it's always great to see new faces on here :).

I've been having a look around and can't seem to find anywhere to download the firmware from, so I've asked one of our data specialists. As soon as I get a response then I'll let you know.

Hi David,

There have been no firmware updates for this modem - you are on the latest version.

Usually when trying to get routers to work with USB modems, it's the firmware on the router that needs updating rather than the other way around. Is this something you've looked into?

Firmware? on my K3520 is on a small cdfs partition and I'd not want to risk rewriting it other than from
a proper update.

The only problem with the VMC on the dongle is that the nameserver ips are hardcoded and only once in
a while might be correct. Way to resolve this is to create another connection from VMC and specify
automatic detection of nameserver.

Unless your router uses VMC from the dongle and is then not configurable I wouldn't expect a problem and
if anything you are more likely to need firmware of router updated.

Having said that my Orange dongle works with my VMC with correct APN and message centre for Orange
and likewise Vodafone dongle works from Orange connection manager.

Either dongle works from a few lines of pppd scripts from Linux or BSD with just changes for APN, user,
password and message centre.
