K3565 Usb Modem Won't Install On Windows Xp

Hi,

I am currently having a major issue with my USB dongle. I have purchased and have been using the K3565 dongle for about three weeks now. Randomly, yesterday, I tried double-clicking on the "Vodafone Mobile Connect" shortcut to open the program and nothing happened. Windows recognises the device, but the program won't run. I even opened the task manager and it showed mobileconnect.exe as running but nothing happened. The modem itself shows the blinking green light. I tried starting/restarting, unistalling/reinstalling, and restoring my Windows to a previous state with no luck.

I talked to a vodafone phone technician and he also had me set my modem location to Spain (I have an American Asus Eee Netbook running Windows XP in Spain) and delete any modem connections (from control panel>telephone and modem conections) before uninstalling. Now my problem is that after uninstalling the program, I am unable to re-install it. When I run the program from the dongle it just stops working and says "roll back action" and closes itself. When I run the program from the website, it says something like "The install wizard was unable to complete the installation" and then the unzipped file becomes corrupted.

When I check the properties of the modem, it says that the device is working properly. I checked the SIM card and that works as well.

Help would be appreciated as now one vodafone store employee and three phone technicians have been no help. Thanks!!

hi marie2006

Welcome to the eForum. :)

In order to fully diagnose and assist you, I wil need access to your Vodafone Uk account.

i will send you an email to provide the necessary details and permissions.

In the mean time, do you have the cd rom that came with the modem? If so uninstall everything associated with the usb software (shows as VMC Lite/VMCC). Reboot and clean the laptop using whatever registry cleaner you may have. Load the cd and do not plug in the usb until requested by the install process.

Let me know what happens please.

Thanks, I just spent 2.5 hours at the Vodafone store talking with technical support (using their phone bc I don´t have a vodafone phone) and I still have no luck fixing the error :( They´ve basically told me it´s a problem with my computer and to go to a computer store to fix it.

I uninstalled everything and I will figure out how to clean out the registry but I don´t have a CD. I was only given a modem and the software is inside the modem. In fact, I have a netbook that doesn´t even have a CD drive :) That´s why I tried to download the vmc software from the website, which i tried with both the modem connected and disconnected.

We also tried connecting the modem to a computer inside Vodafone and it worked there even though a bubble keeps popping up when you plug it in saying ¨there is a problem with your hardware. new hardware might not function properly.¨ (or something like that)

I haven´t received an email but also I have a Vodafone ES account not a Vodafone Uk account. And there doesn´t seem to be any technical support in English which is a whole other story. However, I have talked to now three different vodafone operators and none of them have been able to help.
