K3656 loses signal and have to constantly reinstall software for it to work

Ive been having major issues with Huwaei K3656 dongles since I got one for myself and my son. Mine keeps losing its 3G signal yet Im not moving my laptop or the dongle, I know our signal isnt great as we live in an apartment all I get is 1 bar and a poor or very poor signal but at times it seems to work fine, Youtube videos load quite quick etc but it just suddenly keeps dropping the signal and sometimes cant seem to pick up the 3G signal at all Ive found that if I unplug and plug it back it it sometimes works then other times I have to do a full reinstall of the VMC software for it to work. Ive tried changing the port number etc too! Also it can show as connected yet the upload speeds are moving but downloads just stay at 0bps Ive tried GPRS but the speed is shockingly slow and again will drop connections! What is odd is we have a mobile thats on vodaphone and the signal is really high even when its in the same room as my laptop so how come the dongle signal is so poor? My sons dongle just doesnt seem to pick up 3G hardly at all hes also constantly having to reinstall his VMC software to get it working. This is getting very frustrating! The reason I got Vodaphone instead of the other brands is because we knew mobile phones worked great on that network in our apartment where as T-mobile is a terrible connection.
I have an Acer Aspire 5630 running windows 7 my son has an Asus running XP we have got VMC software version 9.4.4.17702

Is anyone else having this issue?

Please help before I lose my mind!!

Hi Kat2112 and welcome to the eForum

I'm sorry to hear that you are having problems with this. I totally appreciate how frustrating this must be for you.

I've very confused as to why uninstalling and reinstalling the software would have any affect on your signal that you are picking up as this is just pretty front end on Windows. Could you possibly provide me with your full postcode of the area you are having this problem in and I'll take a look at the local sites to see if we are having any issues there.

Please let me know and we'll be more than happy to help you further

Thanks

Wayne

Hi Kat2112,

I have had a thorough look at your local network and checked a number of local 2G and 3G sites and all seem to be taking traffic on the data network without fail.

Where you are situated is surrounded by 4 3G sites, all within 1.7Km of your home but the signal is labelled to be good Outdoor coverage with partial Indoor.

One thing to try for us, could you try the SIM from either of the dongles in your Vodafone handset and just see whether the 3G signal shows as strong as that when you have your normal SIM inside the phone for us.

Would it be possible to give us a brief description of your the housing structure? Is it a terrace with the traditional thick walls or is it a new build as the structure, potentially could be the cause but doesn't explain why the re installation would rectify the problem on a short term basis, so I'm as confused as Wayne on this.

One last thing, could you please ensure that you are using the most recent software version to support Windows 7, this can be found on our Latest Vodafone Mobile Connect Software help pages, just please ensure it's 9.4.4 it is you have installed as it tends to run better with Windows 7.

Many thanks

Andrew
