Vodafone E172 Modem - Windows7 Cannot Find The Dongle.

Hi all,

I think I'm another user with the Windows7 problem. I'm on an E172 - and it's not even recognised by my laptop (running on Windows7 Enterprise version).

I can find it in the Windows Explorer as a second drive & can manually start VMC light from there, but it can't find a "mobile device". The field stays completely empty.

Tried to download the latest software, but again that's now working as no datacard can be found.

What now? I'm even willing to upgrade to a Windows7 compatible dongle as I really need access while travelling - so what are the options? (ie. which dongle would work with Windows7 already?)

pS. Downgrading to another system isn't an option as it's a company laptop.

I didn't get any replies so far, but solved the problem by spending the whole afternoon with Google.

What I did was the following, and maybe that helps other users as well.

1) Remove the existing VMC lite installation from your computer & check if you have anything related to your usb dongle in the Device Manager (USB part), if yes remove that too
2) Shut down, reboot
3) Download the latest VMC (full VMC) software and install
4) Shut down, reboot
5) Open VMC from your desktop, insert your dongle - it will automatically install now all drivers again
6) Device detected in the Mobile Connections (finally!!)
7) Connect & enjoy! 😃
