LG G3 Switching itself off

I've come across 2 instances of LG G3's just switching themselves off randomly and not coming back on until connected to the charger or had the battery pulled and replaced.

Both the devices in question are from Vodafone and came with Android 4 before beign updated. I have a third device that hasn't been updated and has never had the issue. A 4th device came from Vodafone with the lateest firmware already installed.

This would make me think that there has been some kind of issue with the upgrade process that has left some conflicts behind that has caused the problem.

The internet recommends a factory reset which we are in the process to trying. Failing that they recommend a repair/replacement through the retailer. One of the devices is only a week old so if it's likely to be an ongoing problem I think we will go down the replacement router whilst still in the cooling off period.

Anyone else had any experience of this?

I have a problem with my LG G3 constantly switching off.  It's been in repair 3 times, still switching off.

It's not the battery, I bought a new one.  Its not the charger, it happens when it's both plugged in and unplugged.

The repair centre phoned and said they couldn't find the problem on the second repair

I am currently hoping to swap the phone for something different, as it only ever switches off at the worst possible times (can be up to 20 times a day, but about 2-4 on average)

Hi there rgammans

Have you done a hard reset on the device?  If not, that would be a good place to start.  Don't reinstall any of the apps for a bit and see how the phone behaves. Remember to back up your data first.

Have you contacted LG directly and had them repair the device?  That would be a good thing because as the manufacturer, they may be aware of issues with the phone that they haven't communicated to third party repairers such as Vodafone.

As a general rule, Vodafone won't replace your handset unless it is beyond economic repair.

After doing some more digging on my own issue I think the problem may be related to specific hardware/software interaction, not entiresly sure as there are quite a few theories on the internets. One thing they all have in common is that the phone is going into some kind of deep sleep mode to protect itself, just nobody is quite sure what from.

I've managed to arrange an exchange (got a new G3 coming next week) so will see if the problems persists.

Will update if the problem comes back on the new device

Just my tuppence worth.
I was once a frequent visitor here, but had to sign up with a different username and email address because I couldn't retrieve my old account.

I, along with some other users, had similar issues with Nokias doing exactly the same, shutting down for no apparent reason.
Most of us descovered that it was after we restored backed up settings when the problem began. Possibly an old setting that was causing a conflict with and updated service. Most of us reflashed with new firmware but didn't restore settings (started from scratch like it was a new phone) and that cured the issue of the shut downs.

Just a thought from the past that I hope may help those in need,
