Messagelabs Proxy

gjh
Not applicable
Hi
i'm trying to set up web sweeping using the messagelabs roaming service.

I connect using a Huawei e272 , winXP ,ie7 even though I've set my proxy to the message labs server farm ( roaming1.eu.webscanningservice.com:80 ) the traffic seems to be routed direct or proxied by someone else ( if i connect using cabled broadband everything works fine ) .

I heard a rumor ( messagelabs support ) that vodophone intercept all port 80 traffic and route through their proxy , does anyone know the truth to this and if so is there any way to force traffic to another proxy ?

Thanks

When files downloaded via vodafone are different to those on server they're downloaded from
and same files downloaded via other providers are as expected it looks that way to me.

Possibly messagelabs allows you to specify a different port for their proxy.

Hey Gjh,

I'll admit - I'm not quite sure this morning! Will have to get back to you on that one as to if this is the case or not. However in the meantime I would recommend that you uninstall your current Vodafone Mobile Connect, and install our VMC 9.2 in its place - please choose Custom Install, and tick Optimisation control. This will allow you to turn the optimiser off, which sometimes can cause trouble when certain programs try to run certain services through it.

Let us know how you get on with that! On the topic of online working, I recommend our free Online Billing - quick, easy, access anywhere. Our online services might just be what you need to save you time and money in the future why not sign up for My Account today? It's free and quick B-)

PS... If you have a spare minute, and don't mind giving me some feedback as to how I've helped you today, it's much appreciated!

I use a 9.2 version of VMC, but still get file-corruption issues.
It still does a certain amount of image-compression even with the 9.2 "optimisation" module not installed.

With the optimisation module installed, I can choose "Optimisation..." from one of the menus (maybe Settings), then I see a slider to adjust the level of image compression (and checkboxes to turn off images or other types of media-content), but still no obvious way to turn it off completely - please can you give more detailed instructions (or screenshots)?

Thanks.

thanks for the advice . using 9.2 sw i now get an error from message labs stating ' invalid request . some aspect of the HTTP request is invalid ' - from my point of view this is good progress as the request is at least being forwarded to the correct proxy .

a quick wireshark seems to show a missing authentication request ( compared to a known good trace ), next chance i get i can start looking into where it went to and why

Hi guys,

Techmind, can you confirm exactly what steps you followed for me when installing 9.2 and what options you selected/deselected for me? This will help to get a picture of what you're getting and help us see what may need adjusting for you.

gjh - good to hear we're getting somewhere there. Please, as you say, let us know what you finfd out on that check as it is going to help us see what is going on for you.

I look forward to hearing from both of you!
