Mobile Broadband - Contract to PAYG?

Hi,

I currently have a 12 month contract for 3GB Mobile Broadband with the "Pro" dongle (the black one that can connect at 7.2mbps instead of 3.6) and am paying £15 a month.

The contract expires in August, and I no longer wish to continue with it. However, I would like to change to a PAYG tariff, with the same speed.

How do I go around doing this, if it is at all possible?

Thanks
Ryan

EDIT: Apologies for the duplicated topic - can one of them be deleted/locked please? Thanks. :)
Thanks,
Ryan

My current contract phone is a RIM BlackBerry Storm2 9520.

I own or have owned the following:

Sony Ericsson W715 (replacement for 2 faulty Nokia N97s), Nokia N97 (had 2, both broke - good riddance!), Nokia N95 8GB (condemned - water damage - now binned and sorely missed) , Sony Ericsson W910i (had 2, both broke, had N95 8gb as a replacement), Sony Ericsson W900i (mostly trouble free, needed firmware updates a few times), Sony Ericsson V600i (PAYT - trouble free, still works fine today!)

Hi Ryan,

I'm glad to see you're thinking of sticking with us when your contract ends :)

Unfortunately, we do not sell our Pay-as-you-Go Mobile Broadband services on a SIM-Only basis, nor can we transfer customers onto these tariffs from an existing one. Currently the only way to take advantage of these tariffs, is to purchase a Top Up and Go Modem, which comes with the SIM card pre-loaded with credit, and ready to use.

If you still wanted to take advantage of the higher download speeds, then it will be possible for you to use this SIM card in your existing modem, simply by changing a few settings in Vodafone Mobile Connect.

You'll need to go to Manage Connections, and create a new Custom Connection.
In the APN tab of this new connection, enter the following details:

APN: ppbundle.internet
Username: web
Password: web

It's a simple as that, and you're ready to go! :D

I trust this information helps ;)

Hi Jon,

Thanks for your helpful reply.

Can I clarify a few things with you (or another member of staff):

I will have to buy a new dongle and put the sim card from the new one into my current "Pro" dongle?

Or can I use my current dongle and sim card and change the settings in the software and top up online?

Hope this makes sense!

Thanks,
Ryan

Hi Ryan Webb

Let me clarify this for you. :)

You can change your connection to a PAYT account. Change the settings in your VMC software, and use your present dongle to browse the internet. You can top this up and it will work, but what you cannot have is one of the bespoke £15 for 3GB tariffs, without purchasing a PAYT dongle for £25.

You can buy the PAYT dongle, with comes with a pre installed £15 of credit, and then use the SIM in your existing dongle.

I hope this helps clarify matters for you.

Hi Trev,

Thanks for your reply.

Just one more question: will I be able to connect at 7.2mbps using the new sim card in my existing K3760?

Thanks
Ryan

Hi Ryan,

You'll find the specifications page for the PAYG dongle here.

As you can see by selecting the "Specification" tab, these dongles have a maximum download speed of 3.6Mbps - this is a restriction of the dongle itself, not the account, so switching SIM will not make a difference.
