Mobile Hotspot

I've been using a version of the OS that has the Mobile Hotspot feature. I've been using this quite happily for the past couple of weeks but a few days ago whenever I try to activate Mobile Hotspot on my device I get the following message: "Cannot start Mobile Hotspot due to a temporary network problem. Please try again later".

Has Vodafone done something at their end which may be preventing me from switching on the Mobile Hotspot? FYI I have the 500MB Mobile Internet package and my APN settings are as follows : APN: internet Username/Password: web

Kind Regards

Si

a few people have seen that message, if your using 7.1.0.74 then thats quite a unstable old build, from what i hear, RIM are in the high.3xx/low .4xx builds, and vf are testing a .2xx build.

Hi mr_musing,

We do not support the Mobile Hotspot feature at this time.

As always, this may change in the future but we do not have any information at this point.

So that is not 2 things that vodafone have screwed us 9900 users out of which apparantly they dont support!!!!!.....NFC and Mobile Hotspot.....SO COME ON VF GET YA ACT TOGETHER AND GET THESE SUPPORTED!!!!!!!!!!

I have to say VF, I agree with Rabidferret. What's the point is selling (and pushing) "next gen" handsets if your not going to support any of the features CUSTOMERS by them for. Anotherr issue for another thread, but if anyone could have heard the conversation re battery life I had with a CUSTOMER SERVICE rep; in a nutshell it was basically turn my phone off.

Running OS 7.1.0.267 (non-Vodafone build) and Mobile Hotspot definitely works.  Apart from testing, I haven't used it for two reasons - I don't need it & it mauls the battery!

You can't fault them though - my battery will last for days with the phone switched off :smileyvery-happy:

To be fair ... 7.1 is a vast improvement (in my opinion, this is what RIM should have released to start with).  I can now get 3 days (auto on/off at 7am / 11:30pm) comfortably on a charge with, admittedly, low-average business usage.

From 7.30am I'd never get to 11.30pm on a single charge. Not a ridiculously high usage- I'm on my work laptop for most of the day. 3 personal email accounts (not business email traffic), some BBM use and a few calls a day.

I'm on bb bold 9900 and it asks me for a activation key so how do I go about getting that then, please help vodaphone or somebody. These issues are not right for a phone like this and to be honest I'm really angry at vodaphone for not allowing it to be easy and straight forward to just switch the bloody thing on, after all its just a posh word for tethering (mobile hotspot), vodaphone best sort this out soon or else I'm changing to 3 network cause they don't put a block on tethering your device.

I have a bold 9900 and had the "temporary" problem before.
Vodafone did help me sort it, by guiding me through a secure wipe of the whole device, which was a major pain because I have lots of settings to redo, including my work and personal emails.

Anyway, I have just had the "temporary" problem recur...

So I suppose all I can say at the moment is a secure wipe and reinstall will fixed mine for a while, but not for long!
