New Fibre Connect Router and Devolo Powerline

Just moved to Vodafone from Plusnet. Plugged in connect router and nothing. Helpline had to get me to run a hard reset to get online to the fibre broadband Great start!

Now can't get Devolo Powerline adapters to work with this router. Anybody got them up and running. Starting to think I'll just go back to Plusnet again. Their router plugged in and bingo everything just worked.

Yeah same with me. Previously used adapters with my Plusnet hub.

Ethernet from hub to main adapter in socket as Devolo advise and all adapters worked on the ring main perfectly and we're all showing in Devolo Cockpit app on PC and mobile devices.
Wired exactly the same way with Vodafone router and nothing works. Devolo cockpit cannot even find adapters.
Only way I could get it to work was;
PC to main adapter, main adapter to router. Router to phone socket.
However twice now the network has crashed and I've had to start from scratch, resetting adapters to factory setting and linking to the router and Pc as above.
Retried with Plusnet hub and all works fine wired as per Devolo instructions
Must be something to do with Vodafone router no other explanation.

Hi Wishy14,

This problem seems weird! This is not a thread hijack, but I am interested in this as I might have the same problem if I go down the powerline route for Wi-Fi.  I’ve not done any research into this yet, so these are my thoughts. So, I have a question or two.
I have TP-Link Powerlink set for LAN only.  I had this in use with my previous Internet provider.  When I had the new service and router from Vodafone, all I did was plug the Ethernet cable from the TP-Link powerline device to the new router and it just carried on working. I didn’t need to repair the TP-Link devices together, they just carried on as if nothing had happened.
If I log into the VF Connect router there is no evidence of the TP-Link device. All that shows up are the computers plugged in. For example, I plugged my laptop in upstairs and it passes through the TP-Link and gets assigned an IP address from the router. I am thinking of getting an extra powerline device with Wi-Fi to sort out the signal in one corner of the house where it is a bit poor. I’m making some assumptions on how these things work.
1) The Wi-Fi powerline might be set up as its own Wi-Fi access point, so it would have its own SSID and basically pass it traffic through the router.
2) It can become an extension of the router’s Wi-Fi and become a secondary access point with the same SSID as the router and use the same credentials.
3) Perhaps as SpongeBob said, “Or some other third thing” can be done by the Wi-Fi powerline?

Does your Devolo powerline include Wi-Fi?  If so I’m wondering does the router needs to send its credentials to the Devolo, either by some manual input into the Devolo via the Cockpit app you mentioned or by WPS? I noticed when logged into the VF Connect there is a WPS option in the Wi-Fi menu.
I’m probably shooting in the dark 😄
Cheers

Hi,

What made me plumb for the Devolo originally was the ease of setup. They extend the Wi-Fi and can use the same router settings.  Clone the routers signal to as many adapters as needed.  The version I have also allows Ethernet connection at source up to 500mbs.

However with this router as explained I have had nothing but problems.  The adapters show up in the manager but I experience constant drop outs and Ethernet speeds are nowhere as good as with all my previous routers.

I'm starting to believe it could just be Vodafone now.  My home broadband overall is pretty terrible and as elsewhere on the forums with many people I am recording very poor speeds,  customer service etc.

I have even unplugged the adapters and tried in a friend's house where they work perfectly well following the straightforward instructions from Devolo on his BThub.

There is no doubt that the router is blocking something and I've had to resign myself to poor speeds until I can switch provider or cancel due to all the other problems.
