Solution

Newbie - K3520 On Windows Xp Pro X64 Wont Install

I have just received the K3520 and tried to install the software on my laptop which is running Windows XP Profesional x64 Edition Version 2003 SP2 and it fails with the message "Administrative privileges are required in order to install Vodafone Mobile Connect on Windows 2000 SP4 or Windows XP Sp2. The installation will now exit.". I have phone Vodafome yet as I thought I would try here 1st. I have found some threads relating to installation issues but none refer to the x64 (64bit) version of XP. I have 13 days to resolve this or return it under the 14 day rule.

Just spoken to VF 2nd line support and they have confirmed that it is NOT supported on this version of Windows XP. :(

Mine doesn't work either (same error msg).

I've got XP64 too & nowhere online or in manual does it state it's not compatible! So what are we supposed to do? Will they release a patch or upgrade? What about Vista 64 bit? Do I have to downgrade to an inferior version of Windows just to get this ###### thing to work? Aargh...

Went into shop & they were predictably clueless ("oh u might have to wipe PC & start again, oh r u sure it's plugged in?, r the little lights on? No, not in in the shop assistants head they aren't). ######!

Try this forum post, it might help: E272 Installation Problem

Or go str8 to the Huawei Tech forum: http://tiny.cc/cqK3P

I have d/l the modified drivers, will try them later and post here if they work.

Good Evening Spiro & Welcome to the eForum :D

Sorry to hear about the problems you have been having with your USB modem,

The error message you are getting doesn't seem to be a compatibilty issue,
There is a setting on a laptop which would stop you installing new programmes on it, you will normally find this when you have a works laptop,

There is a way of checking/changing this.

  • Go onto the Control Panel
  • Then select User Account
  • You will find it set to guest
  • You will need to change this Administrator

Im sure this will resolve the problem,
Though if you need anymore help please let me know,

Sorry Vicola Vodafone but you are truly wrong about this. I am the administrator and I am logged in as the adminsitrator. THere really is an install issue with your dongle, and we need Vodafone's assistance to sort out a fix or patch please. Even an alternative downloadable install routine would be good? Any ideas? thanks

    Hi everyone,

I've spoken to product management and I can confirm that it WILL be a compatibility issue with the 64bit version of Windows XP. As we don't currently support this platform, I would recommend exercising your return period Spiro.:(

I'll be sure to communicate this out to our sales channels for you as I wasn't aware myself until I came across this post. If and when a patch is available in the future, we will be able to inform you should you ever decide to reattempt.

If anyone else is looking for details on our fantastic Data Card deals, be sure to visit the store for more info!

    Cheers, Ben

    Hi.

    I have XP 64-bit (x64) operating system.

Here is the solution to launch vodafone modem on XP x64 system (I think it also possible on vista x64 and w7) and shift the "Administrative privileges" error.

My modem is Vodafone (huawei) K3520 (e169). I think, other modems are supported too.

Before You start, CALL YOUR LOCAL OPERATOR to get the user name and phone number of connection or prepare it, if You have :-).

    For vodafone/bite Latvia they are:
    *99#
    internet

    Sequence of operations:

    1. Insert your stick in free usb port. Cancel autoload of installer or click OK on error message.
    2. Your vodafone stick will be recognized as USB mass storage device.
    3. Download and extract drivers (for manual install, istead of vodafone mobile connect).
    Follow the link: http://rapidshare.com/files/98165936/huawe...0_XP64.zip.html
    4. Right-click on "my computer" and select "properties" tab (or press WIN+break buttons instead).
    5. In opened window select the "Hardware" tab and press "Device Manager" button in it.
    6. Go to "Universal Serial Bus controllers" and expand it.
    7. Explore only "USB Mass Storage Devices" and find the right one (double click on them or right-click+properties) - in "general" tab "location" line must contain "Huawei Mobile" or smth. like that.
    8. In correct one, go to the "Driver" tab and press "Uninstall" button below.
    9. After uninstalling, XP tries to reboot your vodafone stick, and in "Device Manager" windows You will see new group of unrecognized devices, marked with yellow question marks (in my case, there was huawei 3G modem + 4 data ports)
    10. Double click on line containing "3G" or something like that, and in opened window press "Reinstall Driver..." button.
    11. Select "No, not this time" in internet connection advice window, and "Install from a specific location" in the next window. Then, mark the "Include this location in the search" and hit Browse to select previously downloaded driver folder (step 3.). Press Next and Finish.
    12. Complete step 10-11 for other Yellow question marks lines related to 3G modem group.

    13. After that. Go to "My Computer", "Control Panel", "Network Connections" and in folder network tasks (left menu) press "Create a new connection".
    14. In new window hit next, then next ("connect to the internet" radio button checked), then "Set up my connection manually", "Connect, using a dial-up modem". Input ISP name (any) and hit next, phone number (Call your local operator or input it here) and hit next.
Get "Username" from your local operator, but password is your Vodafone stick sim PIN. Check/uncheck options below and hit next/finish.
    15. Now You have connection configured and can start it from desktop or "network connection" folder.

    🙂

Hi, I have the 64bit version of Win 7 and have problem with both my E220 dongle and the K3520 (E169 rebranded by vodafone), both Huawei models. I keep getting error message 2738 cannot access VBscript. Vodafone keep telling me its a problem with the windows program running on my laptop which is highly unlikely as the laptop is brand new. Everything else runs perfectly - except for VMC software.

Will this fix work for this problem do you think?? I am in the UK, how would I contact 'My local operator?' as I am not exactly sure what you mean by this.

    Thanks
    <_<

p.s. there's a forum on Huawei's website (page attached) with people requesting the drivers for Win7 on the K3520/E169 so I am failry sure I am not the only person experiencing problems... hint hint Vodafone.
