Hello,
Following the recent ios 8.1 upgrade the toggle to disable 3g/ enable 2g or edge should be visable, but it is not.
I had this option on my iphone 5 using the same vodafone simcard so maybe its not a vodafone issue but an apple issue.
I spoke with Apple and they are saying to speak to my carrier.
Any help please?
Its really useful to disable 3G when in a poor network coverage area.
Thanks!

@masai
I totally agree. It is apalling that we are not allowed to use the 2G/3G/4G as we see fit.
I have full 5 bars 2G reception at home, but only 1 bar of 3G and 2 bars of 4G, so calls are flakey as there are no calls over 4G yet, so all calls go via the 1 bar of 3G.
Apple CAN do what we need. Its just a matter to how we get them to enable this option.
I think keeping this thread going and getting lots of people to join in with requesting it, then maybe Vodafone Tech can put this to Apple in USA.

I wasn't planning on jailbreaking but may have to when pengu jailbreak is stable and the appropriate tweak is available. Seems a drastic measure just to get a simple on/off toggle! I do hope Vodafone are taking note!

I just checked my son's 5S and it's the same as my 6+ - no 2G toggle and he's on a 3G contract.

Another problem with no 2G toggle is that if anyone wants to turn off Cellular (mobile) data it is not possible without turning off 3G also.
In areas where 3G is abysmal toggling off 3G leaves you with a signal that is so poor, even in areas that 2G was previouly very strong makes the phone unusable for voice call, sounding as though you are speaking underwater.
Apple have stated that 2G will not be available for any network that has enabled 4G, so unless Apple and Vodafone get their heads together and work out a solution it looks as though anyone in a poor 3G area or who wishes to turn off Cellular data is going to be holding a phone with very limited capabilities as far a speech goes.

This is definitely a carrier issue. I jailbroke my phone and edited the carrier file with iFile and now my 2G toggle is back.
Seems like Vodafone would prefer to force you to be on one bar of flakey 3G/4G rather than a strong 2G signal if it's available. And who can blame them, there's no money to be made in calls/texts anymore. It's all about you hopefully going over your data allowance now.

I was in the Brighton Apple store yesterday and spoke to a Genius while he was testing an iPad and asked him about the 'lost' 2G toggle on phones running ios8, he said that the choice is down to the carrier as to whether they enable it or not.
Whilst Apple give the codes to the networks to allow them to either enable or disable the 2G option the final decision is with the carrier. To enable the toggle all Vodafone need to do is to push out a carrier update.

It looks like a passing the buck game.
Apple say all of the codes needed to enable the 2G toggle are available to all of the networks, whether the carriers decide to push them out or not is up to the individual carrier.
There are a number of posts on the official Apple forums on the subject and people using jailbroken (not to be advised) phones have been able to get back the toggle by changing the carrier settings and still retain the latest ios
