No 2G toggle still after ios8.1 upgrade

Hello,

Following the recent ios 8.1 upgrade the toggle to disable 3g/ enable 2g or edge should be visable, but it is not.

I had this option on my iphone 5 using the same vodafone simcard so maybe its not a vodafone issue but an apple issue.

I spoke with Apple and they are saying to speak to my carrier.

Any help please?

Its really useful to disable 3G when in a poor network coverage area.

Thanks! :Smiling:

I have an unlocked 6+bought directly from Apple with a Vodafone sim and there is no option to disable 3G - only to turn off 4G

This needs fixing as the 3G signal in my home is very poor and I can barely make/receive calls as they are repeatedly dropped. The only solution is to switch to 2g at home and I can't even do that.

Really not impressed with Vodafone this last couple of months

I believe Voda need to send out new carrier settings to enable this 2G toggle. Please can this be escalated to the relevant tech team

This isn't confined to Vodafone or even the UK. I just read this thread on the official Apple Discussion Forums

Thank you for that link jeffkinn

Could I ask the reverse question, and see if any VFUK customer with iOS 8.1 DOES have he 2G toggle available?

If so, are you on a 3G or 4G price plan?

I had to do a full restore through itunes for other reasons not related to this thread and still do not have the toggles. Just in case anyone was hoping it was to do with OTA update.

Seems from this Apple KB article that it is not possible with iOS 8.1

Very sad news indeed.

I don't understand the logic behind not offering 2G to people.

I will move to Three once my contract is up because they will give a free femto cell to subscribers with poor coverage, whereas VFUK want £100 for a SureSignal.

@ dmdrewitt,   Looking at the link would it not suggest the opposite - that it is possible?

@masai

I don't see what you mean.

It is clear that VFUK is a 4G network, so the 2G button will not be an option. Do you read it differently?

Sorry dmdrewitt, I read the info on the page wrong.  That seems pretty definitive from Apple then.  I wonder if Vodafone will every support VoLTE?

I wonder if people on T-Mobile and Three support VoLTE and whether or not they have the toggles.  Like I said before, friend's iphone 6's on EE and O2 don't have the toggles either on IOS8.1

This really sucks! I can get no reception at all in places where I used to by switching off 3G/ Switching to 2G.  Places like my GP surgery, local Tesco and Brent Cross shopping centre are a total dead zone now!
