No 2G toggle still after ios8.1 upgrade

Hello,

Following the recent ios 8.1 upgrade the toggle to disable 3g/ enable 2g or edge should be visable, but it is not.

I had this option on my iphone 5 using the same vodafone simcard so maybe its not a vodafone issue but an apple issue.

I spoke with Apple and they are saying to speak to my carrier.

Any help please?

Its really useful to disable 3G when in a poor network coverage area.

Thanks! :Smiling:

As you say there is no reason that Vodafone can't give customers 2G.

The official Apple forums are full of complaints about the carriers choosing to push out an update that removed 2G and Apple's response is that the carriers have the option to push out an update that will enable 2G. The decision on what networks decide to allow their customers is their decision not not one that Apple makes the final decision on.

Let's just keep this thread high on the list and hope more people complain and Vodafone ACTUALLY LISTEN TO CUSTOMERS!!!!!

Vodafone have great 2G in my area too where I live but unfortunately their 3G is a bit weak. My phone constantly hangs on to 1 or 2 bars of 3G which I don't need because I have wifi all over my house. It makes phone calls extremely infuriating and I often get text messages from my voicemail because I have missed calls, while using this poor 3G signal. O2 on the other hand provide strong 3G where I live because it's 3G900. If Vodafone won't allow me to use their 2G network I will jump ship. I know they don't care and probably won't read this but a simple update to the carrier settings would make a lot of people happy.

Hi everyone,

We’re aware Vodafone customers with some Apple iPhones (iPhone 5C, iPhone 5S, iPhone 6, iPhone 6+), cannot manually select the 2G network coverage on their handsets.

The same policy is used by Apple for other Mobile Network Operators with 4G certified networks.

We’ve made Apple aware of this issue.

Thanks,

Gemma

Thanks for the update Gemma. I just came back from shopping at my local sainsbury's and had no coverage what so ever for the hour I was in there for on my iphone 6. Another customer in the queue at the checkout was had an iphone 4 4/s and was also on Vodafone had reception! This really needs sorting as I missed 2 important calls in that time with no coverage. Im getting to the point that if its not resolved soon I will be asking to terminate my contract early and go with another provider though I may still face the same issue. Damn this is annoying!!

Encouraging that Apple have been contacted about this athough they are already aware of the problem as their own forums are full of it.

As with masai no 2G toggle makes the phones unusable for long periods, today I was in an area where there is no Vodafone 3G so without the option to toggle on 2G I was without a signal for almost 4 hours.

I have been with Vodafone for more than 17 years and rarely experienced a problem but naturally if this problem is not going to be resolved it will be time to look around at what is out there.

+1 to previous post.

It is not just desirable to have a 2G toggle, but ESSENTIAL!

Please lets keep this thread current and to the forefront of Vodafone Reps.

There are some videos out there in youtube explaning how to get the 2g/3g/4g toggle back.To get this you have to jailbreak your phone & edit the carrier bundle so its purely down to carrier & not apple.if Vodafone give us a updated carrier settings it should be sorted.

Why make it complicated ?,give us the power to choose 2g/3g/4g as you say VODAFONE POWER TO YOU

There are videos on youTube but unless you really know what you are doing and prepared to accept the reduced security of using a jailbroken phone I would never advise jailbreaking a device.

As has been said before, Apple do not need to do anything, they have already stated (as has the Apple store) that the carrier settings for the 2G toggle  are available to networks but it is down to the networks to push it out or not. The update will not come in the form of an ios update but as a carrier setting that can easlily be pushed out through iTunes.
