Obtaining Pac Code

Where do i start !

So i was on a vodafone contract for 2 years and coming to the end of my contract with them i shopped about for the iphone 7 and got a better deal on ee.

Due to their being a shortage in handsets with my expected delivery date for the new phone being into november and not eanting to continue paying £56 to vodafone after my contract end date, i went instore and spoke to a man who advized me to go onto a pay as you go sim card and when my new phone arrives call and get my pac code. I asked what happens should the phone arrive earlier and he explained that as my phone had already been unlocked with vodafone all i had to do was call and obtain my pac code but would lose any remaing allowance i hd on my vodafone sim.

So phone arrived earlier than expected, called codafone to obtain pac code to be told no i need to have been with them for 30 days?! I explained i had a contract with them for 2 years and had just been moved onto a pay as you go sim temporarily to be told this doesnt matter and that when i switch from pay monthly to pay as you go it set up as a new account so had to wait 30 days.

I went on live chat (have chat transcripts from 2 advisors) telling me that they had obtained my pac and sent it to me via text (never received). So called back, 2 hours and 6 advisors later i get to speak to a manager in capetown who was the most arrogant person ive ever came across.

He told me that the instore advisor had gave me false info. Told me the 2 agents i had spoken to on live chat had lied as no pac had been generated and i couldnt get one till after being a customer for 30 days and told me this was available to read on the website. I kindly asked him to direct me to this as the only info i could find for pay as you go was that a pac code can be obtained by calling vodafone and i have 30 days in order to use it (nothing about waiting 30 days to generate one). The added info which did not apply to me was that if i wanted to take my current phone to the new network then i could only have it unlocked after being with vodafone for 30 days which i understand and have already had codafone unlock said phone. I have screenshoted the pac info off the website and have copies of the chat transcript of my live chat discussions.

I am now expected to carry 2 phones around until after my 30 day period when if i had of know i was going to have this 30 day issue (even though ive yet to be shown where it stipulates this as i did ask incase i have missed it) then i would never have taken out my contract with ee a month earlier than i needed !

The handset i have with my vodafone sim is due to be sold so will have no handset to use the sim car in so wont be using the bundle i paid for and im paying £56 for a contract with a temp number as will take a few days to change number with everyone thats needed only to change it back again in a couple of weeks which is such an inconvienience !

I would apprecite any help on this and obtaining my pac code as my last option is to take this and the screenshots of website info and chat transcripts to ofcom as i have been lied to since day 1.

Hi

The 30 days stipulation I think is that it takes 30 days for a pay monthly to be properly converted to a Payg account.

In regards to issuing of pac codes networks have to supply it straight away or within 2 hours by text.

Your situation maybe hampered in regards to the account type change. I think care need to be taken so your number isn't lost through trying to push this through.

Hi @Amandaq

You seem to have been given the runaround here.  I am not quite sure where the 30 days to be on PAYG comes from before being able to transfer the number to a contract. All that is needed is for the SIM to be active on the network and this only means a small top up and chargeable activity.

Firstly, if you are on PAYG, you don't need a PAC code to transfer your number to a contract, all that needs to be done is to call Vodafone, use live chat or complete the form below.

Keep My Number

The best thing to do is to wait for one of the Team here on the forum to get back to you.  They will soon have your PAYG number on  the new contract.

@anns my new contract is with ee. Went into vodafone store and explained to them i was switching networks but the phone was not due till november. The sales advisor suggested moving to vodafone pay as you go sim till it arrived.

Asked him if it came any earlier would i still be able to call for pac code he said yes as its just if im taking my phone to ee it would need to be unlocked and needed to wait 30 days but explained it was already unlocked by vodafone.

Now refusing my pac code for 30 days

Hi @Amandaq

It wasn't quite clear what you intended to do.

Vodafone have to provide you with a PAC code for the PAYG number within 24 hours, there is no reason for them to refuse the code and make you stay on the network as PAYG for 30 days.

I suggest you use Live Chat and ask them again.  They can't refuse.

@anns sorry should have explained better.

Recalled vodafone, explained to the girl what i wanted to do and told her about being refused my pac and explained i had been on the ofcom website which stipulates im within my rights for my pac code and she apologised and provided my pac code straight away. This is the first person whos apologised and she couldnt have been any nicer

Thank you to those who replied :Smiling:
