Overseas billings on Samsung Galaxy note 3

I've been overseas recently and come back to massive bills from Vodafone, for services / data that I have not used. In conversation with Vodafone online  I was giving various reasons for this including that I must have been streaming movies which I have never done.

Can someone advise me what else I need to shut down / switch off on this phone apart from the obvious, wifi, data roaming, location, to avoid getting these charges.

All I need to use while out of the country are the phone, and maybe look at e mail a couple of times a day, obviously switching on and switching off for that, everything else can be done on the laptop.

Thanks !

The problem with turning it on is that loads of apps will start to try and update themselves, even if you haven't asked them to. That's what Wi Fi is there for. If you can't wait to each a Wi Fi hotspot you have to accept that there is a risk of lots of data being used in a short space of time.

Your best option is to use either Euro Traveller or World Traveller if you are in any zone hat can take advantage of those offers.

The golden rule is to turn off mobile data - that is the fail safe. It won't stop Wi-Fi from working and calls and texts are unaffected.

Thanks, I have turned off mobile data which on this phone is located within Data Usage, but it is telling me that turning it off means e mail is turned off too.  I guess I can switch it on to check e mail and then off again  ?
