PUK code for phone with SIM that has not been activated

I  upgarded  to a Sony  Z3 Compact and  received it earlier this week  with a  new sim.While transfering  contacts  across, before  activating  the  new sim , I decided  to sent up a pin code  for it. In doing  so  I am locked out and  am now asked  for a PUK code. I logged on to my Vodaphone account , entered the code and  no luck. I have since  read the  PUK is diferent for every sim, so the code must be for my old phone. How to I  obtain the PUK code for my new sim ?

 I found a phone number while searching  the forum - not easy to find on website, and called and was told the  only way to  discover PUK after advisor spoke to technical support   ( if it was not with  new sim)  was activate new  sim. New sim  activated  while I called from land  line  and  system updated with new PUK. I was  verbally  give number and  entered and phone  now unlocked.
