My phone was doing a software install and shut down during the installation, I thought it was the battery had died as it was only lasting a very short time from full charge, got a new battery and it still won't turn on, I was told it needs a re flash what ever that means. Any one know what I can do

You may be able to use Kies / Smartswitch to recover the installation.  Simply connect your device and follow the on screen instructions to recover the installation.

How did you do the update, was it Over The Air or did you connect it to your computer and download the update using Kies or SmartSwitch.

A message on my phone screen said there was an update and asked me to install, it said I would not be able to use my device until the installation was complete. It started the installation then my phone just shut down and would not start up again. Thought it had drained the battery as the battery was not keeping a charge very well, tried to recharge the battery, it wouldn't charge, so bought a new battery tried to turn it on, got a brief view of Samsung galaxy when I put the battery in, then it just shut down again, the guy where I bought the battery from said it needed a re flash and that I would lose everything on my phone, which is not really a problem, but he can't do it until tomorrow, said I could do it myself but it is a bit complicated. Don't know how I can do anything if I can't even get the phone to open

Hi,

Hopefully via connecting to a PC may help as advised.

Depending on Samsung Model you could try a hard reset but again this cab delete any saved information in the phones memory. Just google Hard Reset.

Another avenue is speaking to Samsung UK Support http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/

Current Phone  >

Samsung Galaxy s²⁴ Ultra 512gb.

So you did the update over the air (OTA) ie without any cables involved.  It is always best to use SmartSwitch as you can often recover things should something go wrong.

You need to visit Samsung's website and download SmartSwitch and install it on your computer.  Once installed, use the charging cable to connect your phone to the computer.  Launch SmartSwitch and follow any onscreen instructions.

If that doesn't work, you will need to download the firmware from somewhere like Sammobile.  Copy it to your memory card and then use recovery mode to install the firmware.  This method is a bit more complicated though.
