Solution

Problem with a locked smart ultra 6

My friend was given a smart ultra 6, but found it was locked. She tried to get it unlocked where she lives, (in Africa), but couldn't. So she asked me to take it to the UK and try for her.

I've failed so far.

The unlocking shop told me that the phone needs a PUK code, but the handset says 'Enter PUK 0 attempts'. So, I can't enter the PUK code they gave me.

We tried 3 different SIM cards, new and old, but the same message came up on the handset with all of them.

I've tried at the unlocking shop, at the local Vodafone shop and on the Vodafone online chat, but nobody can help me to find a way round this.

Please can anyone help me? Thanks

For the phone being locked to Vodafone, the original owner that got it in the UK can ask Vodafone for a NUC (network unlock code) to unlock it and be able to be used on any network.

3rd party unlocking services may be able to unlock it, but there is chance that it could lock again if the phones software is updated.

To add to this advice, if the original owner cannot be found and you want the phone network unlocked you can use the phone as a PAYG phone for 30 days on the Vodafone network to make chargeable calls and then complete the NUC form.

Thanks for the advice.

I do understand what a PUK code is. I got one from Vodafone, but I can't enter it as all the attempts have been used up.

So, I bought a new SIM card, which should solve the problem, but it doesn't, I still get the same PUK message. That is what I can't understand, and neither can the people in the Vodafone shop.

I can't use the phone on pay and go, because I can't use the phone at all - it is PUK locked whatever SIM card I put in it.

@ketr In  that case it is worth trying a factory reset which should clear any code requests from the phone.

Yes, the guy in the Vodafore shop did a factory reset, but it made no difference, sadly.

@ketr

That is strange.

Maybe now try the advice given by  @AnnS and call Vodafone and ask them if they can supply you with the PUK code.

I have the PUK code.

The problem is that I can't put it into the phone, beacuse it says there are 0 attempts left.

I need to find out how to get more attempts added to the phone, but nobody can tell me how to do that.

@ketr As I mentioned i've done the same thing and I had to get a new SIM which allowed me to access the device again. A Vodafone store should be able ot arrange this.

Your most probably going to need a new SIM card now which any Vodafone store can help you with.

Yes, I tried 2 new SIMs, 1 from the Vodafone shop and 1 from the phone unlocking shop.

Was the phone purchased from Vodafone UK?

It's not come from Vodafone Germany or Spain or one of the other Vodafone Group companies?
