Problems with vodafone S5 firmware G900FXXU1BOH4 closing apps

I recently updated my UK Vodafone branded S5 firmware to G900FXXU1BOH4.

Now several apps won't work properly. These apps are all ones that need to run in the background or when the screen is off. Examples are Garmin Connect (to work with Garmin Vivosmart watch - it keeps losing the connection to the app) and IPBike bike computer, which gets closed after a couple of minutes of the screen being off, despite being left as the active application.

Anyone got any ideas? Seems Samsung really stuffed up the memory management in this release and Vodafone didn't test it properly  I'm not happy that my smartwatch doesn't work properly anymore.

So, I've done a bit of further research, this does indeed seem to be a problem with memory management. There is a possible workaround for others having this problem here:

However, Samsung really should fix this.

It's great that you managed to find help.

Have you sent any feedback to Samsung ?

I've sent an email to Samsung Support. I'm not holding my breath!

Thanks Steveo67 - my phone had only recently picked up the one I have so I didn't check for another!

I dread to think what bugs the new one will introduce! Every Samsung firmware update I've had on S3 and S5 have causede major headaches!

Nothing from Samsung yet, but the workaround is working ok so far, so I'll hold off and try to research whether the new firmware is any better and what new bugs there may be!

So Samsung just suggest a hard reset! Didn't even suggest checking for the newer firmware <rolls eyes>.

Workaround still doing the trick for me, although I suspect the battery life may be taking a slight hit - though that's always hard to tell.

Still haven't tried the new firmware. Need to do some reading up on any issues with that one next.
