I'm using the R216, but when I connect it to my Mac via a USB cable, the VodafoneMobileWiFiRouter app will not install. It starts the installation and then comes up the 'UnspecifiedErr (0x1)'. Any ideas anyone, as I do need to be able to run this device via the USB cable. My Mac is version 10.11.1. I have also tried the Downloadable Mobile wifi app, but the R216 is not compatible with that, so is not recognised.
Thanks.

Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately nothing there helps. Digging a bit deepere into the software, the Info.plist lists the Os as macosx10.5, so it looks like this software is very out of date. On a windows machine, the appropriate s/w installs correctly, so it may be down to the old version of OSX the mac s/w was generated against. What's needed I think, is a firmware update

Also I have to disagree with OldGoat in that the functionality should be there via USB. When you connect the device via USB, it detects it and opens up the embedded s/w to allow it to be installed. As a purley wireless router it does everything asked of, the 4G signal is good in my location so I am happy with that, just do need the supplied software to actually work.

I'm not seeking to start an online argument - certainly on a PC there is NO software to install - that's the joy of theses MiFi devices. All the software is embedded into the device.
You access the router functions via it's IP address.
It's a wireless device.

I lose (lost) the will to read the help pages - so apologise if what I'm about to write has been dealt with elsewhere.
A recent chat with a real-live-Vodafone-technical-person suggested that the R216 worked better if you didn't leave it connected via the USB lead. It's intended for charging only.
I haven't tried it as a 'wired router' (which is what you want to do) as my normal use is as a wireless device anyway.
Unlike a dongle - where it loads its own software to your machine (and that always caused problems for me) all the iPad / PC sees is a wireless router and that's pretty much industry standard...
