AB1987
Not applicable
Hi there,

My partner is currently in the Falkland Islands as he works for the MOD and I would like to know how much it is going to cost him to
a) ring a UK Mobile which is also on vodafone
b) ring a UK Landline
c) recieve a call from a UK landline and Mobile
d) send and recieve texts
e) use his internet abroad.

I would also like to know how much it is for me to
a) send him a text
b) ring him from my vodafone mobile.

We are both pay monthly.

Thanks.

Hi Aimi,

Firstly, a very warm welcome to the eForum Family, it's always great to see new faces on here :).

I can imagine you must be eager to keep in contact with your partner, so I'll be more than happy to answer your questions:

a.It'll cost £1.65 per minute to make a call to Vodafone Mobiles
b.It'll cost £1.65 per minute to call UK landlines
c.It'll cost £1.30 per minute to receive a call
d.It costs 35p to send a text, it's free to receive one
e.For data it'll cost £3 per MB up to 5MB and then £15 per MB after that.

In regards to you calling or texting him, both of these will come out of your montly allowance. Further details on roaming costs can be found on our Going Abroad page, the Falkland Islands aren't listed, however I can confirm that the charges are the same for those in Argentina.

I am absolutely disgusted that vodaphone don't offer our troops or their families any kind off offeres especially when they are on tour why is this???? My partner called me today costing him over £30 just to wish me a happy christmas yet when hes home in uk he's on my family pack so we use vodaphone family!

So vodaphone why do our guys & girls not get any reductions when on tour too keep in touch with family & friends?????? xxxx xxx

It's important to understand that communications on FI are quite complex.  As with other British Overseas Territories, FI is fairly remote and has a small userbase to fund the comms network (cable and wireless?) which is linked to the outside world by sub sea trans-oceanic cables.  The cost of building and maintaining such a network is hellishly expensive and the cost is, unfortunately, borne by the end users.

It's a rubbish situation but C&W set the termination rates and Vodafone have to pay.

Have you considered Skype?

thanks for you suggestion , i think this a good idea to save money !:smileyhappy:

Hi Jess_hill,

Thanks for your post here.

To be honest with you we wouldn’t know the price structure for orange to contact your partner however, all of the charges for your partner to use their SIM in the Falklands can be found here.
