Sim Activation Required?

rec53

Hello,

I recently bought a payg broadband dongle with 1GB usage included from play.com. It seems to have signal, but after a few minutes, gives an error saying the SIM needs activating. I've e-mailed the address it gave (calling an 0845 number will be expensive from my mobile), but haven't received a reply.

Strangely, the box contains something mentioning the need to call vodafone to set a direct debit. The support on these forums seems to be very good, so I'm hoping you can help?

Thanks!
Robert

Hi rec53,

A warm welcome to the eForum! :D

Its sounds like your SIM card just needs activating. All you need to do is call the number provided and you can also get your direct debit set up at the same time if you’ve not already arranged this. :)

As you’re new to the forum and clearly an online user, I want to take the opportunity to tell you about the fantastic things you can do through My Account, such as managing your price plan, upgrading or adding or removing bars. I recommend you take 5 minutes to take a look at all of the things you can do yourself online without having to contact the call centre, saving you lots of time! :)

All the best,

Jenny

Hi,
All I have at the moment is a SIM card - since there is no phone number linked to the SIM card, I'm unable to register for "My Account" yet.

I clearly wasn't clear enough - it was sold as a PAYG mobile broadband device ( http://www.play.com//ProductOutline.aspx?t...1745&r=MBLS ), there should be no need for me to set up a direct debit, and it surely should have come pre-activated, which is why I'm concerned that the literature that came with it mentions this.

If really neccessary I can phone, but the 08700 number is costly to call from my mobile phone, so I would like to avoid this if possible.

Hi Rec53,

It does sound like the SIM and account simply needs to be activated, if you don't want to call the 0845number you can call 07836 191191 or if you are near a Vodafone store they can also arrange this for you.

Hello,

I phoned the number given, but they were of the belief that the SIM should have been sent already activated, and they weren't able to activate it. Can you check this is correct? If it is, what should I do next, is vodafone able to send out a functioning SIM, or do I need to go back to play.com?

Thanks,
Robert

Hello Rec5

If the device was purchased via Play.com and the sim is not activated I would look into contacting Play.com themselves to figure out why it has not been activated.

If customer services has failed to locate the number it means it may not be showing up on our systems, I'll send you an email however so we can take another look at this.

Thanks
