Hi,
May I ask :
Is the iPhone locked to the Vodafone U.K Network ?
The original owner typically needs to ask their network to unlock the phone to all networks.
On the Vodafone Uk network a person can use a Vodafone Payg SIM card in the phone for 30 days making calls, sending texts and using data to latch its imei number to the Payg account and then request the unlock.
But the iPhone must be in the Uk and used on the Vodafone Uk network.
As I understand your post your not currently in the Uk so it would have to be sent to someone you know in the Uk ,and they use it for the 30 days I mention and they unlock it. Or ask the original owner your cousin to request it's unlock.
Some links is relevant to the Vodafone Uk network.

Tip...
An iPhone is not unlocked via inputting an unlock code but instead is unlocked via Apple and their Database. Apple can take approximately 20-30 days to complete an unlock request made by a Network. Periodically insert an active Non-Vodafone Sim Card in the iPhone and hook up to iTunes. From the iPhone 5 onwards there's not normally the need to hook up to iTunes to complete the process.
