Slow Browsing/decent Download Speed

Please help, been a customer for about two years and have been happy with the service but recently browsing speed has been terrible. Download speeds are about 1.5mbps. Been looking at the forums and could latency be a problem in my case? Get 5 Bars Signal! Latency sometimes 1500ms or higher.

Hi Stevemc,

Firstly, a very warm welcome to the eForum, it's always great to see new faces on here :)

I know from personal experience how frustrating slower than usual internet access can be, so let me see what I can do for you.

Is this happening in one location, or is this everywhere? I've checked the postcode in your profile against our Online Coverage Checker and our own internal coverage checker and can see that the 3G signal in that area is slightly patchy. Have a check on the colour of the light on the modem, if it is blue then you're connected to 3G, it it is green then you are connected to GPRS which admittedly is fairly slow. If you've not had problems here before though there's a few things I can suggest.

It may simply be that your SIM card needs a "network update". The easiest way to do this is to place it into a Vodafone phone and then connect to the internet before returning the SIM to your modem. If you don't have a Vodafone phone to hand then try the following.

-In VMC go to Tools
-Choose Select Network (This may be in view depending on your version of VMC)
-Choose a network other than Vodafone
-Repeat process ensuring you choose Vodafone 3G.

If that doesn't resolve the issue then I would recommend connecting without using the VMC software, this is done as follows:

-Go to Start
-Connect To
-Choose VMC/VMC Lite
-Press connect/Dial

Let me know how you get on with the above :)
