Wife got a notification apparently from Vodafone stating:
Software Updates
New software update available
The message has a green upwards facing arrow alongside.
As neither of us has ever had a similar notification from Vodafone before, we are wondering if the message is genuine? Any ideas?

Hi Bob @bolo
How are you ? It's lovely to see you on the forum.
That will probably be your OTA update. Although you are no longer a Vodafone customer, using a Vodafone branded phone, you should still receive update messages.
If you are going to download this direct to the phone, make sure you are using WiFi, if you use mobile data, you will eat through a lot of data. You should be able to see the size of the download once you start and it takes quite a time to finish the update download.
Any problems, please come back to the forum or have a word with Tesco Customer Services.

Ann, do we have to download the update?

Most updates contain Security patches too and so it's recommended to keep up to the latest update.
Before completing the update please do create a back up just in case.
Top tip > If a phone becomes glitchy or lags after an update it's recommended again to back up and Factory Reset.

So it's definitely genuine?

Hi, I am guessing this would be to install the vodafone suite of apps into your phone. If it is you should be able to uninstall them, if its a security patch then you would just leave it.

Updates pushed to your software update section in the phones settings as far as my experience goes are safe and ok to update.

Hi @bolo
It is recommended but doesn't have to be done immediately and best left until you have plenty of time, always takes longer than expected. Also your phone will keep reminding you which can start to be annoying.
Providing you have backed up contacts to your gmail account, if you do a back up and reset after finishing the update, everything should come back when you log into your gmail account on the phone.
And definitely genuine Bob.
Good luck.

The honest truth is that we don't have a clue about 'backing up' and have hundreds of images that we'd hate to lose. Does this call for a new thread?
