Storage Space with Smart Ultra 6 and v7

Afternoon,

So, I’ve recently changed phones from a Smart Ultra 6 to v7.  Now these two phone both have 16GB internal memory, but what I can’t work out is why, when I have installed fewer apps on the v7 am I using more space up and receiving low space warning.  It’s a company issues phone so I can only run a stock android build, so can’t remove unwanted apps like sheets, doc etc and replace them with Excel and Word.  However on the v6 this wasn’t an issue.

I have a memroy card installed and this is where I put all photos and videos, so its not these taking up space.

Any ideas?

Sadly, IMO most non top of the range phones, don't cater for the memory you will likely require, and basically aren't fit for puprose, why they sell them is beyond me. My Dad is in similar situation less than a year into a 2 year contract.

Hi

If you've transferred your info over via a back up then all the Apps data and cache and possibly redundant files will have cone across too.

Unfortunatley even tho it states it's a 16gb storage internally some of that will be taken upby the firmware and some gated off for future updates. Leaving typically between 13 and 14gb of actual user storage. This doesn't last long when a person starts to acquire things like apps etc.

Some phones allow apps to be moved to the sdcard. This is usually the top end flagship phones. You'll know if yours will as it'll be a choice in the app.

Hiya,

I installed from fresh, as I didn’t want everything back on, forced myself to clean up apps I didn’t use.  When I look at the device storage it shows that I have 9.77GB to use.  I’ve also set the “default write disk” to be the SD card now, so this might help a bit.

Thanks.

You're welcome.

Unfortunately you'll possibly find yourself micro managing the space you have.

On a side note is makes me cringe when manufacturers release 8Gb versions only for people unaware to find that it's soon taken up

9.77gb sounds about right after the operating system and non-removable apps have taken their toll.  I've actuallly seen less.   Personally, I now regard 32gb as the acceptable minimum unless you're a light user and even if you use an sd card for files, especially photos and music, which can be quite large.  A work phone will only be provided with the spec necessary for work purposes, of course.

You can find out which apps can be moved to the card by looking at each one in Settings\apps.   However, remember that card storage will be slower than internal, so only move apps you don't use much.   And, if you don't use them much, ask yourself whether you need them at all!  Also remember that cards are more likely than internal memory to fail, so make sure important stuff can be replicated and that photos are sync'd to a cloud service.

Hrym,

Many thanks for the info.  I've cut down the apps I have and will look at moving the odd one to the SD card.  Just need to keep an eye on it thats all.

Cheers
