Sure Signal & Fast Dormancy

jaypeecee

Hello Folks,

I use a Sure Signal at home. I do not know if Fast Dormancy is enabled on the Sure Signal. If it is enabled, I have reason to believe that this could affect battery life on my Android tablet (Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1). It is running Android 4.0.4.

I am hoping that one of the Vodafone techies will read this post and advise me accordingly.

Thanks in advance.

Hi jaypeecee

Thanks for your post.

Fast Dormancy helps to save the current consumption of the device by switching between different mobile device activities i.e. from 3G to 2G.

This is built into the software and not the Sure Signal, there isn't a way for us to find out which device has it built in.

Thanks

Hi Sukhi,

Thanks for your reply.

The reason I asked about the Sure Signal is because normal mast transmissions can have Fast Dormancy (FD) either enabled or disabled, as I understand. Depends on the carrier. I am not sure where Vodafone UK stands on this. Anyway, I then thought 'well, I have a Sure Signal' so wasn't sure if this was FD enabled. Presumably, you are saying that this is not the case. As it is possible to toggle FD on an Android phone or tablet, which is the best setting to use?

Thanks.

Good Afternoon jaypeecee,

Fast Dormancy isn't supported by Sure Signal unfortunately. It wouldn't make a difference if this setting was turned on but we'd recommend switching it off to avoid unnecessary battery drain.

Best Wishes,

Kay

Hi Kay,

When you say "It wouldn't make a difference if this setting was turned on", in what way would it not make a difference if FD was enabled on the phone? How do you recommend that I turn FD off on my phone or tablet?

Thanks for your help.

Hi jaypeecee,

As fast dormancy isn't supported by the Sure Signal it won't make any difference at all if you have it switched on or turn it off.

If you switch it off it will help with the battery life so you could switch it off on both devices if you're keen on this being extended on both.

Cheers,

Phil

Thanks, Phil.

It's not just me that will be keen to ensure they get the best possible battery life. So, how do I switch FD off on a device - whether it be a phone or tablet? From what I have read, there is a string of characters that can be dialled on a phone but what do I do on my tablet?

Hi jaypeecee

As we don't support Fast Dormancy we don't have any steps we can provide you, it may be worth having a search on Google to see if you can find further information.

Alternatively maybe somebody from the community can help here?

Thanks
