Text and web freebie not renewed

Topped up on 13.6.16 Freebee due to renew 22.6.16. Not renewed and charged for text and data until mobile data turned off. Want the Freebee and a refund of credit wrongly taken.

The text and web freebee was discontinued around 2 years ago and that could be the reason you have been unable to renew. You may well find it has been switched to an equivalent freebee.

 

The best way to get this sorted would be using Live Chat for account access.

The T&W Freebie was only discontinued for new opt-ins, and still continues for customers who were already opted in, although my experience is that there has been a gap of a few hours at renewal in the last couple of months. Possibly the system failed to register your top-up for renewal purposes.

Don't agree to any suggestion from Live Chat to switch to a different Freebie, as you wouldn't be able to opt back in to the T&W version.

I Shave had the text and web freebie for some years. I topped up 22/8/16. It ran out 23/8/16. Despite being topped up in time, it has not been renewed. This has happened before, last time, after several calls I was put on to another plan without my consent. Again, after a lot of hassle , the t&w freebie was put back. Don't know if I need all this over and over. Really thinking of using credit and changing provider. Any thought's from others this is happening to.

Mine has always renewed without trouble -- until this last time. I topped up on 31st July and got a T&W Freebee expiring 29th August. I topped up another £10 on the 19th, but the new Freebee didn't show up when the old one expired. I thought this might be because I was in the US at the time (and I'd swapped my SIM into an old phone without the My Vodafone app), but I've been back since Saturday afternoon and it still hasn't gone on. Is it worth chasing up with Customer Services, or should I just shrug and get an Extra Data instead?

The Text & Web Freebie still continues for those who were already opted in to it, but there do seem to be occasional hickups over renewal, and my impression is that they may be more frequent in cases where the top-up occured while the Freebie was actually running. I do wonder each month whether my T&W Freebie will actually renew, but (touch wood) all OK so far. I had actually had a gap between Freebies, topped up on 3rd September, and it was only a matter of minutes before my "ready to go" text arrived.

 

I'm not aware of any reason why topping up from overseas should make any difference - provided the funds made their way to your account, they should "count" and I've topped up from both the US and from Aus just before returning home, to ensure that I had my Freebie available on my return. But I do wonder if there was some temporary glitch in the system mid-August, as both @saguaro and @Christinehicks topped up at around the same time.

 

I'd certainly recommend trying Live Chat, to get the Freebie activated - but do stress that it's the earlier version, that you know that other people are still having them renew without trouble, and that you want to continue with the T&W Freebie, not get transferred to Freebie Data. Recently appointed staff may simply not have come across the product before, but it should be somewhere in the dataset they have access to.

I don't often top up while the freebee is still running -- I'm a very light user of everything except data, and I tend to alternate the T&W with a couple of months of Extra Data to use up the credit. This time I topped up in advance of my trip, and I know the top-up itself worked fine.

@Louise_E, I've been waiting to be connected since about noon! Every two minutes it says the estimated wait time is a few seconds, and every ten minutes or so I have to click to stop the page timing out. I'm going to have to give up and do other things away from the computer soon. Is this normal, or do I need to disable my adblocker or try a different browser?
