My mobile broadband is not very mobile and it’s barely even broadband. I’m paying for a service I’m simply not receiving.

For my business I travel around the country, hence the need for mobile broadband, and I’ve found coverage poor at best. Simple web pages can load but anything more data intensive will cause the modem to ‘unexpectedly hang up’ -except it’s not unexpected because it happens so frequently. I’ve never been able to stream anything or download software and the speed is often as slow as dial-up and less reliable. In the past I had been putting this trouble down my being in out-of-the-way places but now I’m in London and it’s exactly the same.

At point of sale I was told my U.S.B stick would provide me with fast reliable internet access beamed directly from a satellite, they didn’t say: ‘totally unreliable, often as slow as dial-up, basic web pages only, profoundly irritating’.

Could this be a trading standards issue? This service is unsatisfactory.

Hi ping ,

Unfortunately i can not fully answer your question but I know that Since you travel around the country it all depends on that specific area so you will get different amounts of service and speed depending on your geographical location , Many areas of the country currently do not support services like 3G

Also , Just to let you know that these USB Modems do not work via satellite , they work on the same signals as your mobile phone , so whoever told you it was from a satellite is unfortunately wrong.

Also , I am not sure if this is of any help but the Vodafone coverage map can tell you the type of signal you may get and give you an idea as what to expect. The maps now also give you an idea of Signal inside.

I hope this helps

Thanks Picnic.
It does help insomuch as to confirm that the folks down at the Vodafone store were talking nonsense. And yes, I understand that coverage is patchy around the country, but I've never had a good service anywhere. I've got a blue light right now but it'll still hang up when I click-on anything, it's done so already. So far I've been paying a monthly fee, my end of the bargain, but have not received anything like what I was promised at point of sale. How can this be acceptable?

Yes it did help insomuch as to confirm that the folks at the Vodafone store were talking nonsense. I do travel around the country but I have never had a good service anywhere. I've got a blue light on right now but it'll hang up when I click-on anything, it has done several times already. I'm paying a monthly fee, my end of the bargain, Vodafane have not provided me with the service they promised. How can this be acceptable?

Hi Wayne.
Currently E11 1NP. It'll at least take me two or three attempts to get Facebook or email up, even with a blue light it wont manage anything more complex than that -software updates, no chance...

Hi ping,

We've confirmed that there are no local site issues in that area. The description of your problem, with the frequent hang-ups no matter where you are, leads me to think this particular modem is faulty, as that's definitely not normal.

We offer a free repair service on all our devices, and this is one such time where I'd recommend you take advantage. The process usually takes less than a week - and if you have Insurance on your account, you'll even be given a temporary replacement on the spot (subject to availability) :D

I can assure you, this is not the normal service you've been seeing, so there is quite likely to be something wrong here.

Oops. It's not quite as dynamic as you make it seem Jon. Vodafone customer 'care' call you at their convenience, I'm still waiting -and paying for bad service.

"No waiting - nobody likes hanging around in a queue, whether it's in a shop or on the phone. With email, just send your message and we'll get right back to you"

I'm still waiting...

I've got a new Mac book, a Porsche of a laptop that runs at the speed of a mobility scooter thanks to Vodafaone technology, I'm at the point now where I don't want a repair I just want Vodafone to stop taking my money and get out of my life. Is breaking the contract an easy thing to do?

NO suprise to me:
