Transferring contacts

I have a broken screen on a Prime 6 (completely black). I have bought a Prime 7 but cannot transfer my contacts over. The shop managed to transfer over about 6 contacts via a gmail account.

Any ideas on how I can do it please?

Thanks,

Alan

Hi,

Gmail if your backed up should do this.

I also use Dropbox for moving around my information.

Does your Pc recognise the phone and if so allow you to move your contacts to the Pc so you can then drag and drop them ?

Hi @AlanWalters

If you have any problems transferring using your gmail, a Vodafone store can quickly transfer your contacts and content to your new phone using the instore Red Box.

Thanks, AnnS. I'll go back into the shop tomorrow. They never mentioned a Red Box when I asked them to help me before.

Much appreciated!

Thanks, a lot,

Alan

Hi @AlanWalters

If you would like more information on how Vodafone can transfer your content, please see the link below.

I must say I'm surprised the shop didn't use the Red Box.   It's basically a device that can recognise contacts on a wide variety of devices and extract them.   They're not stored in an easily accessible place or format, so special software is always required.

When you have everything you can get, make sure they're all stored as Google contacts.   Ask the store to give you a comma-separated or vCard file and import that into Google.   That way, next time you change phones, they'll come back by themselves as soon as you sign in.

As a belt & braces, you can export to vCard in the phone's Contact app (it's usually a sub-option of Manage Contacts).   Upload this file to cloud storage (ideally not the same service that syncs them) or email it to yourself and store it somewhere else as well, such as a pc - in fact, the more places the better!

Thanks so much for that. I'm going back into the shop tomorrow and I'll refer to this Red Box, so hoepfully it'll get sorted.#

Once again, a big Thank You!!!

Thanks for that. There were only 6 contacts on my gmail account, the majority didn't/wouldn't come over. The PC will recognise the phone but not too sure how to get the contacts off it. hat would you recommend please?

Thanks,

Alan

When your PC recognises the phone does it do this as an external drive. Can you see the phones individual folders ?

Yeah, it sees it as a USB connection, an external device. When I drill down it shows a series of folders but none that are obvious to me as contacts
