Hi VF

For the past few weeks I have been getting a very poor service on my MBB dongle at post code PO1 3HH. Where I used to get a constant fast and excellent 3G signal, I now get a frustratingly slow GPRS service. I finally managed to get a 3G signal tonight but the signal strength was classed as "Very Poor". Now, the 3G signal has gone and I am back with a slow GPRS signal.

Please could you check if there are any problems with the transmitter covering PO1 3HH.

Many thanks.

I have bumped this as I know the MODs answer posts on a first come, first served basis; but posts made 24 hours after my one above have been answered already.

So, MODS. How about answering this one please?

Many thanks.

Hi Myrm,

Apologies for the delay in responding, it looks like this thread was somehow missed off our work sheet . I'll be able to take a look into this for you right away though :).

Having looked at your postcode I can see that there are four 3G sites within the immediate vicinity, none of which are currently experiencing any major issues. I can see that one of them is currently being upgraded to support 14.4MB HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access), however this should be service impacting.

Even with all of the sites around your area it does still show the predicted 3G coverage for your exact postcode to be relatively poor, so I can only assume that the signal may be blocked slightly by the buildings around you. This doesn't explain why you've been able to receive 3G coverage without issues up until now.

One thing I can suggest is to try forcing a network update on the SIM card, the easiest way of doing this is to insert the SIM into a phone, connect to the internet and then place the SIM back in the modem. Additionally, try switching VMC (Vodafone Mobile Connect) to 3G only as follows:

-Click on Manage Devices
-Highlight the modem and click edit/properties
-Click the Network preference tab
-Click on 3G only

Let me know how you get on with the above :).

Yay! A reply! The VF MODS don't hate me after all!

Thanks for the suggestions, George_VF. My laptop and dongle are in my locker at work, so I won't be able to try your suggestions until Monday. I will post the results then.

Hi George_VF

The advice about selecting "3G only" worked! The speeds aren't great here but faster than the GPRS option.

Thanks very much for your help.
