Unlock iphone 5

Apologies if this has been asked already but I couldn't find an answer that fit my circumstances.

I have an iphone 5 which I bought second hand - the owner has upgraded to a iphone 6 which I know to be true as the seller works for the same company as me (she's a boss). The phone is on the vodafone network but I was wanting to unlock it as I have a very good sim only deal with another network. All the information I find relates to the subsciber getting the phone unlocked. Is there an easy way for me to get it unlocked?

The answer is always the same I'm afraid. Only the original owner can request an unlock. Vodafone won't unlock it for anyone else ever under any circumstances.

Thanks - I thought this might be the case but wanted to be sure. looks like it would be easier to switch to a Vodafone sim unless I can catch the boss in a good mood!
