My phone is due for an upgrade now. If I upgrade my phone and plan online do I or can I keep the same number?

Upgrading your plan & phone does not change your number, you're upgrading & not cancelling the service.
If you cease / cancel your account, then take a new contract (new account) then this is when most numbers are changed, as you are then a new customer.

Yes you keep your current number.
Your new tariff will update on your account and they'll send you your choice of phone.
If your new phone takes a different sized sim then either a blank one will be sent and you perform a sim swap online or via live chat or customer service on 192 or pop into a Vodafone store who'll perform a sim swap which moves your tariff and number over Onto the correct sized SIM card.
