Solution

Usb Modem Connectivity Issue

awb
Not applicable
Hi,

For the last three years I have been using a E220 USB Modem to connect to the internet without any difficulty. In the last two weeks this has stopped working. The problem seems to be the DNS server address settings - it will not save the 'Obtain DNS server address automatically' option, and goes back to the other settings when you reconnect. The problem seems to be the same as the one Sara Holyoak reported.

I downloaded the VMS Lite upgrade that was suggested, but this gives an unsophisticated error message when I try to install it. I am now not confident about installing a software upgrade. This problem needs to be resolved urgently.

Thanks.

Hi awb and welcome to the eForum

I'm sorry to hear that you have been having problems with this.

Could you let us know what version of the VMC software you have been using and which version you have downloaded?

Could you try unistalling the VMC Software and creating a new DUN connection? (Dial Up Networking)

Hers how :-

- Go to Start Menu, Control Panel, Network Connections and select Create a new Connection

- Choose "Connect to the Internet"

- Select "Set up my Connection Manually"

- Select "Connect Using Dial-up Modem"

- Ensure the VMC Device is selected/ticked (and nothing else)

- ISP Name is the name for the connection (a name of your choice)

- Enter the Phone number: *99***1# (for Huawei modems use *99***16#)

- Username & Password = web & web

- Click "Finish" to complete.

Please let me know how this goes for you and if you have any more questions we'll be happy to help you further

Thanks

Wayne

I had this exact same issue last week while up in Durham. The list of websites I could access grew shorter and shorter. The solution to the problem (updating the E220 firmware) was on this forum - but I couldn't get to it! Had to get a '3' dongle instead. If it had just let me put in some open DNS server IPs, it wouldn't have been a problem, but they just got overwritten every time.
