Hi there

Help!

I have recently purchased a Linksys WRT54G3GV2 Router and the only Huawei USB stick i can use that had a external antenna function is the E172 anyway i bought one recently and couldnt get it to work on my laptop on the software that was installed in it and sorry i cant remember what it was i think it was "lite",i also have a K3565 (Huawei E160X)and this came with 9.3.5.11690 so i tried it with my E172 and it worked fine, however i stupidly went on to Huawei website and by mistake flashed my E172 with Huawei "mobile partner" software and ive deleted the original software from my E172 so if im right it will be no use for my 3g router,i have tried to find the correct software for the E172 but on the vodafone website it only gives you downloads to upgrade your software already on the stick not to re-flash it back to its original state? so is it possible to do this? how can i delete the huawei mobile partner and get my stick back to normal so it will function on my 3g router (note i havent got the router out the box yet).
Also i have checked out my E172 and it doesnt have any function for a external antenna can you shed some light on this?. <_<

Might be a case of sending it off for repair to get it reflashed with the Vodafone software i'm afraid.

Hi Microwave man!

Shame to read this :(

DPH offers the right advice - you will need to send it in for a repair sadly. Other than this, the E172 doesn't have any ability for an external antenna, and was designed as use as a standalone consumer product, rather than for further advanced functionality.

Let us know if we can help further,

I wonder if anyone can help me. I bought the E172, but it has Mobile Partner on it. I want to use vmc. Everything is working fine as I have installed vmc onto my laptop and not installing the Mobile Partner software. I do however want the E172 to load vmc when i put it in my pc or laptop and not Mobile partner.

I can't seem to find instructions on how to remove Mobile parter and install vmc onto it. Do i need to update the flash memory as well.

Thanks

Sorry but I think you are on the wrong track entirely.

I have both VMC and Orange Mobile Partner installed on same WinXP system.

I've no problem with my Vodafone k3520 connecting to Vodafone via Orange Mobile Partner nor my
Orange E160X connecting to Orange using Vodafone Mobile Connect.

I can even attempt connections to Orange via either software using my Vodafone dongle or
to Vodafone via either software using Orange dongle, and in both cases connection is refused
only because of telephone number on SIM not being registered to provider I'm attempting to
connect to.

Apart from that, your router probably doesn't run Windows so connection software on your
dongle isn't likely to be relevant.

Hi Xtrodites

Welcome to the Forum!

This is a bit strange, bacupian is right in there response. Thanks bacupian :)

There is an E172 software update on our business site this fixed a DNS issue with the older version of the software, however there is version 9.4.6 which is even newer which can also be found here.

I'm unsure how easy it will be to uninstall Mobile Partner, have you checked in control panel for either add and remove programs (XP) or Programs and Features (Vista/7) if your PC came with this software pre-bundled then you may need to speak to the Vendor of that laptop.

All the best

I think I missed the point somewhat and that Xtrodites wants VMC on his dongle rather than Mobile
Partner so that VMC can be installed from dongle when fitted to pcs without VMC already installed.

I was able to write to cdfs on my K3520 but just put a file there as a check. Is there any writup in
Vodafone help as to best way to copy the VMC installer to the dongle?

I had no problem with Orange Mobile Partner other than default settings weren't suitable for
Vodafone, but they weren't suitable for Orange either as default APN wasn't correct. Only took
a few seconds to create working profiles for "Orange E160X" and "Vodafone K3520" and both
picked up text messages ok as well.

Sorry for only replying now, was a bit busy. bacupian You hit the nail right on the head, this is precisely what I want to do. Is there a way to do this which isn't too risky? I don't want to stuff it up and then have to take it in for the software to be re-installed.

I appreciate the response thus far.

I have one with VMC and other with Mobile Partner and with both of these, after install, the default
settings will not allow a connection (VMC defaults to PAYG whilst I'm contract and Mobile Partner
defaults to some Orange business account rather than contract and modem itself was set to use
Vodafone rather than Orange SCA/MCN, again simple to fix).

As I said earlier it's easy enough with either to create a profile and add correct APN username and
password each time used on a different PC. If anything I'd prefer Mobile Partner to VMC as it uses
slightly less disk space.

It may be worth checking with a Vodafone store to see if they can burn correct VMC version for
your package onto the dongle.
