Vodafone Protect locked

My old phone (Vodafone smart ultra 6) has been locked with Vodafone protect ever since I removed the sim. It asks me for a 6 digit pin that I have never inputted in the first place. I deleted my Vodafone protect account thinking that would unlock the phone but no luck? Any help greatly appreciated!?

The two options I'm aware of are.....

1. insert the the sim in another phone and try requesting the pin that way. 
2. Perform a Hard Reset which takes it back to the last firmware update but this could delete the information in the phones storage memory.
