Hi there
As a general rule a replacement screen is anywhere between £100 and about £150 - the biggest part of the cost is actually the labour charge.
I'd advise sending it off and getting a quote, then you can make a decision whether it would be better to have the screen replaced or simply buy a new device.

The same happeneed to my sons Smart Prime within a week or 2 of me buying it for him. I even bought a cover for him but it still cracked. He didnt even drop it. He had it in his pocket when it cracked and it doesnt work at all. Now I am told no technichan in Dublin can fix it. A complete waste of money and the Vodafone shop where we bought it weren't too bothered.

I have broken my screen ...so I have ordered a new 'Digitizer Glass Sensor Panel' this is the panel that sits ontop of the actual LCD panel..I am hoping I have broken the later.

I dropped my phone on the pavement and broke the digitizer glass screen. I decided to buy a new phone initially as repair would cost me around the same. Later I changed my mind and decided to give it a try myself. I realised it would be a wonderful opportunity to get hands on experience on it. On the other hand there was nothing to loose.
I watched couple of videos on youtube on screen replacement. There are plenty of videos on similar phones/close enough models. And decided to change digitizer glass with LCD asseembly as it was much easier than changing digitizer alone. All it takes is patience. Newer phone has a modular construction. you can take parts apart easily.
I bought tools (scewdrivers) from amazon for a pound or so. I stripped the phone right down first. Removed digitizer/LCD assembly carefully. Once succesfull with that I ordered the digitizer/LCD assembly from aliexpress (http://www.aliexpress.com/snapshot/7652939380.html?orderId=75121480849673). Delivery was fast enough. Package included everything you need to replace a screen like screwdriver and adhesive strips to glue the screen. It took another hour or so to put things back together again. it only cost me under £25 for the repair.

An owner must weigh up the decision to self repair their phone.

This is an awsome post and agree you don't really have much to loose I initally took my phone into my local phone repair shop.
I had just the digitizer they said they would only replace it if got the digitizer and the LCD screen together (you can buy thsee online from china) ZTE is Chinese phone.
Anyway all I can see is that I have had my screen and digitizer replaced on my Vodafone Smart Ultra 6 but sadly the screen is unresponsive not like the original so I can only assume the screen I bought was slightly inferior but it was worth a go. I will likely just buy a One Plus 3 as i fancy a change however it's still a great phone.
