I have a Samsung S6 Edge and the Wi-fi Calling option does not appear on the menu. I have followed the Instructions on the Vodafone site but without the option I cannot enable this function. I have spoken with Vodafone twice and both times the suggested fix did not work.

Hi

I assume you don't have the model.

Customer service should have activated this on your account.

Have you tried texting CALLING to 97888 and you've updated any firmware over the air. And your phone has been purchased directly from Vodafone and not an independent.

Hi, I have texted CALLING to 97888 3 times and each time I get a message back saying "Thanks. We’ll add Wi-Fi Calling to your account in the next 24 hours and will let you know when you’re all set up." The firmware is up to date. I purchased the from Mobilephonesdirect not directly from Vodafone.

That maybe the issue as its not bought from Vodafone.

"To take advantage of Wi-Fi Calling, you need:

A Samsung Galaxy S6 or S6 edge bought directly from Vodafone at one of our stores, online or by phone through our customer service team"

from Calling over wifi.

To get WiFi Calling enabled, the phone must be either purchased directly from Vodafone, or flashed with the official Vodafone firmware.

This is because Vodafone (applies to all network providers) can control the firmware installed on Android phones if it's branded/customised by themselves, and they have control over precisely which features to turn on or off, which they can do with software updates.

If you are of a technical mindset and wouldn't mind reflashing your phone, you can install a Vodafone-branded firmware and then you should have WiFi Calling. If you look for 'how to flash' instructions online, bear in mind that depending on your particular handset, reflashing may not be as easy (sometimes a new PIF may be required which complicates things but only a bit more).

Hi DonDino,

Thanks for your reply.

I have 2 questions:

1: Where can i get the latest official Vodafone firmware for the S6 Edge?

2: Do you know the URL for the "how to flash' instructions?

Regards,

First of all, it's not a simple thing to reflash a device, and you usually lose Over-The-Air updates too.
In the worst case scenario you could brick (=destroy) your device, so be warned, if that happens, no one here is at fault, this is done on your own risk.

That said, sammobile.com is where you will find all available official firmwares for samsung devices.

Instructions are either simple or a bit lengthier, you can google them up. The thing is there is something called a PIT file, this creates/flashes a basic partition of the filesystem, and the size of it can differ between devices bought on different networks (even if they are the same brand and model). If your phone's PIT is smaller than Vodafone's PIT, you'll need to obtain a Vodafone PIT file in additon to the firmware, this is a bit harder to find. I think Vodafone's PIT is around 200MB or 250MB, so on the larger-ish side of things (some S6 phones have PITs size 100MB or so).

Googling up and reading more about it will get you more knowledgable and more comfortable to eventually do the reflash.
