Wi-Fi access with BT Openzone

Blinkie
4: Newbie

So I have 2gb with BT openzone, I have registered with VF for this service. I could not log into the bt site.

Followed the instructions below...

Now you’ve registered for My account, you can use BT Openzone Wi-Fi without any extra charges if the service is included in your price plan. Here’s how :

• Open your phone’s browser when you’re in a place with Wi-Fi access. YES

• Select BT Openzone if you see it in the list of hotspots. YES

• Choose the Vodafone logo. NOWHERE TO BE SEEN!

• Login using your My account username and password.

Anyone help me with it?

Hi Blinkie

Thanks for your post here. I’m sorry to hear that you are having problems with this. I appreciate how frustrating this must be for you.

This usually happens when you’re not using a registered BT Openzone hotspot. Instead you’re using a BT Fon hotspot.

You can check to make sure you’re using the correct Hotspot by checking out the website

BT Openzone Hotspots.

Please let me know how you get on and if you have any more questions we’ll be happy to help you further

Cheers

Wayne

Ah right, i think i understand now, so i can only use the BT OpenZone if i'm in a registered place such as a pub/hotel/airport?

Only the man in the Vodafone shop informed me that i'd be able to use this at home!  Nice and confusing then.

What i don't understand if that i can pick up a stronger signal for the BT OpenZone hotspot that i can my own broadband hub which is quite frustrating, especially given it's over a mile away!

You have my sympathy.  I am struggling with this too, it's becoming increasingly frustrating as my home wifi gives off the weakest signal known to man, so unless i'm sitting right next to the hub, i can't get a signal.

It would be nice if things with Vodafone were straight forward, but i've encountered nothing but stress since i upgraded.  Telephone customer "service" leaves a LOT to be desired!

Same here, I tried this while in London, it was DEFINITELY a BT OpenZone one and NOT one called BTFon, no Vodafone logo to be seen anywhere.

Ah ok, well maybe it's not me being dense then. I can "connect" to the openzone, but when i get the "you need to login" message pop up, it takes me to the BTFon hotspot landing page where there is no vodafone logo to be seen.

nickirundle, that's exactly what I'm getting, even for proper BT Openzone connections (e.g. where there isn't both BTFon and BT Openzone available)

Well thank f... I thought I was going mad not being able to see the login.:smileymad:

I was told (unrelated to this) that BT recently made some changes so that if you have a BT Router and BT Internet, your router automatically acts as a BTFon hotspot and part of your bandwidth is syphoned off for that. (You can override this in your router settings though)

If this change is recent, they may well have made some changes to the BT Openzone website itself, too - I too have noticed that this looks exactly the same now for BTFon and BT Openzone, which is not supposed to be the case as far as I'm aware.

Yes i'd heard similar to this. My computer/internet whiz friend has said that if a neighbour has BT internet then that should act as an openzone hotspot and we should be able to browse via that, but i'm guessing he must be thinking of BTFon, or they've changed it so that it is as you said above.

What i don't understand is that if the openzone is in range and i can connect to it, why can't i browse via it, or at least give it a shot to login?
